Since our Federal Government refuses to enforce immigration laws, ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION should be local. That way when an area decides to become a sanctuary city it can deal with the social and economic problems itself. If an area chooses to enforce the immigration laws that area should reap the benefits.

I am sick to death of hearing stuff like, "The critics of this ordinance are right to note that it's the federal government that should enforce immigration laws," and that only the federal government can enforce the law. The federal government forces state and local governments to enforce federal law all the time. For instance, you've built a house and need a permit from the city to occupy that house. You cannot get that permit unless the toilets in that house meet the federal requirement for water consumption. The city, in other words, is enforcing the federal law. You never hear any complaints about local police enforcing the federal law against bank robbery. There are hundreds of other examples of this. We need to quit buying into this argument.
