Citizenship for illegals will mean no Republican will ever again win the Presidency after 2008 because the illegals who become citizens will want the freebies that the Dems will promise them. That is why Kennedy is desperate for that aspect of any proposed legislation.

I don't like this business of "gettng an issue off the table." It smacks of sellout. Why are the Republicans afraid of the immigration issue? Americans oppose amnesty by about 3 to 1. Republicans ought to take the issue and run with it. Secure the border, punish employers of illegals, cutoff benefits to illegals, etc. That would gain some votes.
