Ex-Official: Russia [Spetsnaz Units] Moved Saddam's WMD
NewsMax ^ | February 19, 2006 | Kenneth R. Timmerman

A top Pentagon official who was responsible for tracking Saddam Hussein's weapons programs before and after the 2003 liberation of Iraq, has provided the first-ever account of how Saddam Hussein "cleaned up" his weapons of mass destruction stockpiles to prevent the United States from discovering them. Former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense John Shaw told an audience at a privately sponsored "Intelligence Summit" in Alexandria: "They were moved by Russian Spetsnaz (special forces) units out of uniform, that were specifically sent to Iraq to move the weaponry and eradicate any evidence of its existence...

You do not belong to the Republican House. A bitter person like who brings nothing but negative, pessimistic and defeatist attitude is not part of the Republican party. If any a person like has the same attitude in any company, he or she will be fired in a short period of time.

Why the HELL is this only at a PRIVATE gathering and not on TV at a PRESS CONFERENCE if it's true? This makes me sick.

Risky as in turning more people against the war by making it look like he's peddling theories in order to make excuses.

Yes, wouldn't want people to turn against the war! I can't imagine what it would be like if that happened. Better thing to do is to constantly "admit" that there were "no WMDs" in Iraq, which.... um.... guarantees support for the war? No wait.

Still not following the logic.

And attacking the "we attacked because Saddam had nukes" myth was my policy suggestion, not what I necessarily think Bush is doing.

Ok. Well, I approve of your policy suggestion, would be an improvement. Many policy changes would be an improvement, unfortunately....

The lie of no WMDs has been repeated so many times that it is now perceived as fact.

Are you calling President Bush a liar?

I am speaking of the democratic parrots and the left leaning press.

There appears to be enough info to suggest that WMDs were shuttled out of Iraq before the war.

But the President himself said that Saddam did not have WMD.

Were WMDs found after the invasion?...No

Did Saddam have WMDs immediately prior to invasion?....I'll let you form your own opinion. My belief is he did and they were shuttled out.

Did I call President Bush a liar?.......hardly.

I cling to the thought that we aren't aware of what actions he is or has been taking.

You know, I hold to that same wish, but every day for me, that wish is getting dimmer and dimmer. For instance, when Carter dispatched Delta to rescue the hostages in Iran, I thought to myself, this must be a ruse of some sort, that it's a diversion to allow the rescue of our embassy staff... Well, it soon became abundantly clear that wasn't the case. For years now, I had hoped that the President would come out with hard, incontrovertible evidence to shut down these idiotic anti-war leftists, but at this point, I don't see it ever happening. Just like with our borders, I had hoped that something would come of it, but like the "rescue" attempt, I'm now pretty sure that it's all based on nothing more than incompetence at the top.

I hope that by some miracle we're going to hear, "Yes Virginia, there really were WMDs, and we know where they are and how they got there." But much like with Santa Claus, I'm not really a believer anymore.

During the run-up to the war there was an article posted here in which a Russian officer was asked his reasons for being in Iraq. I think his response was something very close to "We did not come here for brunch." I wondered at the time if that meant that they would engage Americans. Now, I think it meant something else.

One of the reasons advanced for not going to war was that it would force clandestine dispersal of WMD to other hostile states. If we prove the existence of WMD and their dispersal we validate that criticism. Out of the frying pan into the fire.

If possession of WMD justified an invasion of Iraq, would it not then compel an invasion of Syria and/or Iran? That is something we cannot do.

"Nope, I did not get any response. They may not even read it, they may have read it and dismissed it instanly, or they may have read it, investigated little bit and found that it is meaningless... I have no idea."

There is always the possibility that they investigated it and found something as well, would you think a bunch of spooks would get back to you in any event?

You're waaay to smart for that.

Russia is to be trusted about as much as Iran, at least during the cold war we knew where we stood.
Putin is a real scumbag, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw Rosie O'Donnell.

I believe the risk he was referring to is the risk of a confrontation with Russia, whom we need to help with North Korea and also to keep pumping oil into the market.

Plus, it is not goof to poke the Bear. Better to let them we know privately, and see what get accomplished back channel. Once everything is public knowledge, the Russianas are forced to deny and perhaps take steps which would be dangerous.

Be a fool if you so choose ... WMDs have been found in Iraq, are being found in Iraq, and will be found in Iraq. Saddam used them on his own Kurdish Iraqis and against Iranians in their war. He had oodles of yellow cake, and not for making 'fuel for his reactors'. Saddam trained terrorists for various Islamic terrorist cults. Saddam sent agents of his special secret orgs to teach al qaeda in Afghanistan how to use bio and chem weapons, and was harboring al qaeda connected slugs as well as known terrorists like the scum responsible for the Lockerbie slaughter. Be a fool all you wish, but don't expect people at FR to give you an ounce of respect for being such a fool and broadcasting it so loudly.

Fool, huh? May I start by suggesting that you add this to your reading list, short though it may be?

Let's take another look at what I posted, OK?

Well, it soon became abundantly clear that wasn't the case. For years now, I had hoped that the President would come out with hard, incontrovertible evidence to shut down these idiotic anti-war leftists, but at this point, I don't see it ever happening. Just like with our borders, I had hoped that something would come of it, but like the "rescue" attempt, I'm now pretty sure that it's all based on nothing more than incompetence at the top.

I have no doubt that Hussien supported and trained terrorists. Hell, he had some of the world's most wanted men living in Baghdad. One even committed suicide by shooting himself a dozen times! Of course he had and used chemical weapons. And I have never doubted that he was doing all he could to get nuclear weapons. I also believe that there was hard evidence that COULD HAVE BEEN PRESENTED, but it was quashed! Why? Why wasn't Sandy Berger prosecuted and jailed for a very long time? Why hasn't the Bush Administration gone after the blatant crimes committed by the dems? Why haven't they gone after criminals from Mexico, both here and in Mexico?

You know if it weren't so unbelievably tragic, it would be funny. The Justice Department, part of the executive branch of the government, isn't allowed to investigate William Jefferson, a man caught on camera accepting bribes, and with nearly $100,000 of marked bribe money in his freezer, and Denny Hastert, former pubbie speaker of the house said that it would cause a "constitutional crisis!" On the other hand, congress (now run by dems) is demanding a full scale investigation of parts of the executive branch! And about all Bush is doing is saying, "well, I don't think so." And you've got republicans agreeing with the dems on this, just like they did on Jefferson!

Am I the only one here that things that there's something really terribly wrong going on within the Bush Administration?

Mark
