Breaking, UN imposes sanctions on Iran. Waiting for Iran's response. Should be plenty of bluster from Iran's mouthpiece.

Notice which countries sought to drag this thing out: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=arM1J4JR1Vis&refer=home

"The co-sponsors of the resolution, France, Germany and the U.K., in week-long negotiations rejected a number of proposed amendments by council members Qatar, Indonesia and the current council president, South Africa. Those proposals included a 90- day freeze in imposing sanctions."

He's achieved the remarkable result of getting the entire world united against him and the mullahs. Quite an accomplishment!

I wouldn't be so sure of that. It's more likely that Russia, China and France are just saying what we want to hear for public consumption, while they work behind closed doors with Iran to figure out how all of them can benefit the most at the greatest expense to us and Israel.

By who? Jacques Chirac?

By almost every country aligned against them IF they remain cohesive in the face of graduated sanctions, which do seem likely. I'm not a Pollyanna by nature, but I just believe this has a chance. Call me crazy.

Withdraw from the UN and give them 1 month to vacate.

More toothless sanctions by the UN.

Uncle Sam should offer to deliver the "official notice" of the vote via Special D... (D for DROP!!)

"Call me crazy."

I hate to say this, and I say this with the utmost of deference and respect....but you're crazy. Too many questionable state actors have too much invested in iran to make UN sanctions anything but implausible at best and laughable at worst.

The U.S. is one of few countries on the world stage circa 2007 that is willing to do as it says.

...so? Does anyone actually follow UN sanctions or just the US?

I actually read a few pundits deduce that the reason Iran took the Bristish sailors hostage was to shift attention away from the sanctions vote. It obviously didn't work.

Iran is in deep economic crisis and the sanctions, as toothless as they seem, will only sink the Iranian economy deeper.

Ultimately, it will not be sanctions that finally control the Iranians...

If Iran can be prevented from going nuclear - without war - I do believe I'd dance in the streets for the first time since the Berlin Wall came down. But if military action proves necessary, I hope the US and A will have the spine to carry it out aggressively.

And now what happens? Nothing as usual. More sanctions. No action, etc., etc., etc., ..........

If Iran does not want a host of Royal Marines dropping in for a visit they better let those men go.

This sums up my position concisely.

Could not agree more. Reduce their military capabilities to slingshots and nyah-nyahs, and GTFO.

Now they'll expect us to give the sanctions 15-20 years to work before we visit violence on Iran...
