If you want to put it bluntly..our lack of immigration policy to supply cheap labor to replace our own "underclass" is racial. There is no doubt that illegal immigrants in service and construction jobs have displaced black workers..they should be pissed.

You don't quite have it right. Bush and his financial aristocracy supporters are not out to displace black workers. They are out to lower wages of all workers, black or white. The middle class is left to pick up added costs such as social security which is used for welfare; increased medical insurance to cover costs of those who don't pay -- illegal immigrants and welfare recipients; increased auto insurance for the same reason; increased criminal justice to defend illegals; and so on. This is ultimately an assault by the rich on the poor and the middle class. It's class, not race.

And every time I hear the rich pay all the taxes I puke. The middle-class pays all the social security taxes which is 15 percent of wages on top of all the other taxes they pay. Social security is capped so the rich don't pay a proportional share.

The top 10% of income-tax payers, in terms of income, pay most of the federal income taxes. The last percentage I heard was around 65%. While the middle class pays the vast majority of social security taxes, the middle class also receives the vast majority of social security benefits. Contrary to your claim, high income people pay a disproportionately high amount of social security taxes relative to the amount of social security benefits they receive when they retire. That's because the benefits do not scale up in direct proportion with taxes paid while working. Social security has an extremely poor rate of return for high income people; it is a financial disaster for high wage earners who would be much better off putting all that tax money into an IRA.

Social security is also a financial disaster for young Americans who are being mauled financially to pay the politically-driven benefits for affluent retirees. The rate or return on social security is far below any kind of IRA including no-risk money market funds. A mandatory IRA would be a much better program for people between 20 and 45, but of course as soon as this is suggested liberals scream about the "evils of privatization." What a joke. Some day the under-40 group will fully wake up to how they are being screwed by social security, and they'll elect people to congress who will finally cut back benefits and taxes and apply some means testing to social security benefits.

I think one answer--maybe a weird one coming from a conservative--is to raise taxes on entry-level jobs. At least the illegals who are "on the books" will have to earn some money to pay for their services. And the law should at least bust the crooked employers when they don't collect taxes.

In my area, if an employer is caught not paying his state Medicaid tax, he gets busted and does hard time, almost without exception. It's one way to try to enforce immigration law--the ACLU can't stop it.
