Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

But made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You with praise and thanksgiving for Your Unfailing Love for us; a love so deep, so wide, and so high that You sent Your only Son to be made in human likeness, to take the very nature of a servant, and humble Himself enough to become obedient to death on a Cross. Lord, our finite minds cannot grasp so great a love – that Very God of Very Gods would die for us and take our sins upon Himself so that we might have forgiveness. It is in the cleansing that comes with that forgiveness that we come to You this day.

Father, we thank and praise You as well today for our President and for his strength in supporting our troops and in fighting against an evil enemy, even when few are willing to stand by his side. We know, dear Lord that his strength comes from You, and we ask that You would continue to gird him with courage and conviction to stand against those whose actions and words are evil, and to stand on the side of liberty and truth. Keep him strong in Your word and deep in prayer, and in a steadfast search for Your will. Keep him focused on serving You first as he leads this country, so that all things would be added unto him. We ask for blessing and protection for both him and Laura, and ask that their marriage might remain committed and filled with an ever deepening love for each other as they draw closer to You.

We pray, dear Lord, for our troops in harm’s way, and thank You for the abundance of good news coming out of Iraq. We can see, Father, that we are moving closer to victory over the terrorists, and we pray that there might be a way for the American people to understand what our troops are doing there in spite of the efforts of the media to hide and distort. We pray that, in spite of the shadow of the treason committed by the House today, that our troops would remain steadfast and optimistic and focused on their mission, and would attain a victory that is swift and sure. Lord, we know that with You all things are possible, and we plead today that this which is intended for evil will be turned into good by You. We trust You for the answer to this fervent prayer, and praise Your Name for what You are about to do in this nation!

And finally, dear Father, we pray for those in authority over us in this nation. Lord, we are tempted in our humanness to become discouraged and to throw our hands up in frustration that we are helpless to correct what has gone wrong. But again, dear Lord, we are reminded that it is not in ourselves, but in Your Power alone that we live and move and have our being. So, dear Father, we leave all of our anxiety at the foot of the Cross, trusting You to lead and direct us and give us the hope that comes only from You. We pray these things with confidence and joy, knowing that You, the Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Almighty God will hear and answer our prayers, in the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen!

There are several instructive features in our Saviour's prayer in his hour
of trial. It was lonely prayer. He withdrew even from his three favoured
disciples.
Believer, be much in solitary prayer, especially in times of trial.
Family prayer, social prayer, prayer in the Church, will not suffice,
these are very precious, but the best beaten spice will smoke in your
censer in your private devotions, where no ear hears but God's.


It was humble prayer. Luke says he knelt, but another evangelist says he
"fell on his face.
" Where, then, must be THY place, thou humble servant of the great Master?
What dust and ashes should cover thy head! Humility gives us good
foot-hold in prayer.
There is no hope of prevalence with God unless we abase ourselves that he
may exalt us in due time.


It was filial prayer. "Abba, Father." You will find it a stronghold in the
day of trial to plead your adoption.
You have no rights as a subject, you have forfeited them by your treason;
but nothing can forfeit a child's right to a father's protection.
Be not afraid to say, "My Father, hear my cry.
"

Observe that it was persevering prayer. He prayed three times. Cease not
until you prevail.
Be as the importunate widow, whose continual coming earned what her first
supplication could not win.
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.


Lastly, it was the prayer of resignation. "Nevertheless, not as I will,
but as thou wilt." Yield, and God yields. Let it be as God wills, and God
will determine for the best.
Be thou content to leave thy prayer in his hands, who knows when to give,
and how to give, and what to give, and what to withhold.
So pleading, earnestly, importunately, yet with humility and resignation,
thou shalt surely prevail.

Thank You, Dear Lord, for answered prayer in my life.

Heavenly Father, our hearts are heavy with worry tonight for so many. We lift up to You President Bush and his family. We ask for their safety and protection. We lift up his administration, especially our friend, Tony Snow. We pray, Dear Lord, this will not be a big hurdle for him on Monday, and that he will come back soon physically OK.

We pray for our troops and their families. Dear Lord, we pray for the safe return of all of them and that You would protect them.
