Jones made a mistake here, unquestionably. But we've all made mistakes. It's possible that his district in Western North Carolina has suffered a lot of casualties in Iraq, and Jones may have overreacted emotionally to those casualties. I don't know why he voted no; perhaps he'll give us an explanation.

Jones is NOT in Western North Carolina. That is my District, the 11th, currently held by Heath Shuler, a freshman Democrat who voted for this bill. Since this is a conservative District, he should have voted no. But he's no more alert now than he was during his brief, failed career as a quarterback for the Washington Redskins.
