Dems vote for defeat, plus $124B in pork to its reps.
I bet Ron Paul is one of them.
Bush's proposal was about $100 billion; Dem's bought votes with $24 billion of pork....
They only needed the magic 218. So bribed their own in any way possible.
R's lost 2. 14 Dem defectors. Obviously NOT vetoproof.
You're right Nancy won't have passed it without the two Pubs,
shame on them. Also the ones that sold their votes for pork.
In the Foxnews story is says Bush wants to pass, but he's sworn to Veto it? I guess I'm miss the obvious here
One of the two would have to be Walter Jones of NC. He is hand in glove with Murtha on this. Ron Paul might not be the other bc he would object to all the pork in there.
Now I am really comfused here, is the Senate totally out of the picture in this issue?
It'll never get the 60 votes needed to pass it in the Senate, and the Dim's know it.
BUSH WILL SPEAK TO THE CUT 'N RUN ASSHATS IN AN HOUR !
The Senate will need 60 votes to pass the bill, and it's not gonna happen (for the second time).
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear.
Marcus Tullius Cicero
Yes the Senate won't pass it. They need 60 votes in the Senate. They will be lucky if they can get a majority on this one.
See post #27
Here are the Republican defectors:
Walter Jones of North Carolina
Wayne Gilchrest of Maryland
Wait...this isn't the Anna Nicole DNA thread..., is it?
If the Senate gets really stupid and also passes this bill, Bush needs to set a new record for the fastest veto in history. He should move a desk to the entrance of the White House, then when the messenger delivers the bill, have Rove stand with a stop watch and record how fast he signs the veto papers. Dubya is a fairly good athlete, so I think he can veto this bill in less than 30 seconds...lol.
So what happens to the funding for the troops? Continuing resolution at the same levels as last year?
Gilchrist and Jones (NC)
