But what exactly would his objective be?

To save face. If he makes the trip - but fails to pursuade the Security Council to drop sanctions - it will be more humiliating than not showing up at all.

So he seizes British sailors in Iraqi waters while falsely accusing the White House of not approving his visa, all to provide a pretext to cancel his trip.

Or maybe he thinks it will cause the Security Council to postpone the vote tomorrow, and he's stalling for time.

Yeah, and those 444 days wouldn't start until the Brits are released.

W: "Sam, that visa we approved for Mymood Ahminajihad, has it been delivered by our interest section there?"

S: "No, sir, but the courier is 2 minutes away before he does just that."

W: "Recall him, Sam. We've got something here we need to clear up first."

Maybe the state department was waiting for a delivery of some white powder to sprinkle on the visas?

..............................

Seriously, a visa to this "head of state" should not be issued. He participated in entering and despoiling our Embassy, capturing our Ambassador and diplomatic staff. That Embassy was sovereign territory of the United States of America. That is an act of war - has been for centuries.

Carter should have been impeached for not immediately (within ten days) responding in kind.

Anyone who participated in that Act of War against the United States should be considered an enemy and captured, tried, and imprisoned.

Treating this criminal like a head of state when the state itself is a criminal entity is a travesty of international as well as United States jurisprudence.

So where are we now? Break into and take over our Embassy, hold our Ambassador and his diplomatic staff hostages and we will

we will....we will....uh....er....um.....

give you a visa.

I think in a perfect world .....

In a perfect world ahmadenhajads aircraft turns into a lawn dart!

I'd love to see him in chains but ramsey clark and murtha would turn him into a cult hero.

They've heard that there's a standing warrant for his arrest

If that were true, why didn't U.S. Marshalls grab his skinny arse when he was here a few months ago?

PC, Realpolitik and lack of proof that "perp number 9 in photos number 54, 217, 225, 356, 415, 552....." (or something like that) was him.

From what I hear that's been cleared up.

Cleared up? How could there be any doubt that that face belonged to Ahm-a-nut-job?
