JEFFERSON CITY A dire, apocalyptic prophecy in the Bible's Book of Revelation is getting a new audience: state legislators.
Several evangelical Christian groups say the federal Real ID Act, which will standardize state drivers licenses and link them to corresponding national ID numbers by 2009, represents the "mark of the beast," the devilish number 666 that is attached to the godless.
The nearly 2,000-year-old passage is referenced along with the prophetic locusts, plagues, oceans of blood and rivers of fire found in the Bible. Soon after, according to scripture, the antichrist takes control of the world and Jesus Christ returns.
In short, new national ID numbers could spell the beginning of the end, some Christians believe. Advertisement
"This is getting treacherously close to prophecy in the scripture," said Irvin Baxter Jr., founder and president of Endtime Ministries in Dallas.
And some Missouri legislators are listening.
Some Christians interpret verses from the book of Revelation that say humans will be "marked
so that no one can buy or sell who does not have that mark" as a prophecy of a global numerical control system to be used by the beast, or antichrist. The number would be used during the Great Tribulation, which some Christians believe will precede the second coming of Jesus.

Unbelievable that people still believe this nonsense.
This mark of the stuff has nothing to do with Christianity as it comes from the myths and fables of the Old Testament. The NT is the bible of us Christians.
Actually the Mark of the Beast is in Revelations 13;16-18
and the book of Revelations is in the New Testament
Not on this site it isn't.
Ummmm, voodoo is a real religion. '666' being interpreted as a national ID scheme is just interpretation.
Nope, it comes from the myths/fables of the New Testament (Book of Revelation).
I would not be to worried about this the mark will not come until after the rapture of the church.plus the mark of the beast is implanted or tattoo into the forehead or the hands of the unbeliever.Without this mark you cannot buy or sell in the antichrist world or kingdom.
National ID numbers?
You mean like Social Security numbers?
You're more likely to get by without a drivers license than a SS number.
Irving Baxter is not a Christian leader.
Prince Charles is the Anti-Christ

Where exactly does the Bible state this?
Uh...the Mark isn't mentioned in the Old Testament.
Actually, Revelation 14:9 - 12 makes it pretty clear that anyone that takes the Mark of the Beast is dammed:
9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand,
10 he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.
11 And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name."
12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.
One of the reasons that "the mark" gets a lot of press in Christendom -- taking "the mark" is too big of a risk to chance. I know I will never, under any circumstances, allow some one to implant anything into my right hand or forehead, tattoo anything there, or otherwise get "marked" permanently in those places.
Besides, if merely getting tattooed was enough to send you to Hell, why would't the Beast just forcibly tattoo everybody? Because it's the choice that matters, not the tattoo itself.
Furthermore, the hand and/or forehead are not going to be the preferred places for the implantation of any global electronic ID chip. Hands can be cut off, and there's no room under the skin of the forehead for a chip. Animals are not chipped on the paw or the forehead, and humans wouldn't be, either. According to Wikipedia, "In dogs and cats, chips are usually inserted below the skin at the back of the neck... Horses are microchipped on the left side of the neck... Birds' microchips are injected into their breast muscles". It's much more likely that any human ID chip would be impanted in a more secure location, such as the back of the neck or behind the breastbone, where it would be safe from hacking and unauthorized removal. And since Scripture clearly states that the Beast's mark must be on the right hand or forehead, any chip implanted elsewhere within the body can't be the dreaded mark.
My objection to chipping has nothing to do with the book of Revelation. I object on esthetic and ethical grounds. I find the thought of human beings being chipped to be ugly and repulsive, and I object to the further objectification of the human person implied by chipping. Human beings are not merchandise or products, and neither the state nor any other entity, public or private, has the right to track or inventory them. Furthermore, the act of chipping is intrinsically injurious to the dignity of the human person as an individual created by God. There are plenty of people who feel as I do, and for that reason I predict that any attempt to chip people for economic reasons (or for any reasons other than emergencies or military service) will meet with widespread public opposition.
Human beings come equipped with many "onboard" identification systems: voiceprints, retinal patterns, DNA codes, and good old fashioned fingerprints. Unlike chips, these identifying characteristics cannot be removed or hacked, and thus are and will continue to be used to reliably identify humans for commercial and other legitimate purposes. I don't think anyone is going to spend money to chip people when we already have thumbprints that work just as well and are free.
And how come nobody pinged ME to this thread!
You're right; forgot that.
Well they already have the Implant and they also have the Tatoo http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2007/01/11/221122/rfid-ink-product-could-track-humans.htm
