Pop superstar Madonna would throw her support behind Al Gore if he decided to run for US president in 2008. Madonna told German weekly newspaper Die Zeit she had "deep respect for Hillary Clinton as a woman," but thought Gore was a "great guy."
"I would publicly support him if he joins the race," Madonna said, adding she had been impressed by his stance on environmental issues.
Gore won an Oscar this year for his climate change documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."
Gore, who was vice president to Bill Clinton, lost to George W. Bush in the 2000 election.
The lifelong Democrat has not ruled out taking another crack at running for the White House.

Now all he needs is an endorsement from Britney Spears and his campaign will be in high gear.........
Today's Fun Thing: Challenge a liberal to read that sentence aloud, verbatim and in English, without coughing, spitting, screaming, frothing, or any accompanying sound effects. And the clock is ticking...
I feel so much better knowing Madonna has weighed in. Her new British accent makes her seem sooo smart.
Al's got the fake Kaballah vote wrapped up.
Chuckle chuckle. On the other hand, Gore's Oscar was almost certainly the beginning of the HoWood schmucks jumping HMS Hillary and scuttling up the gangplank of Good Ship GoreyPop.
Gee, I'm so glad to hear this. I care so much about her opinion. After all, she's an important political commentator and has demonstrated so much wisdom in the conduct of her own life.
I might get flamed for this, but I would take Al Gore any time over his fellow Dems. Even if Madonna likes him.
Compared to everyone else, he has some substance. He doesn't sound like a cat in heat, like Hillary, or look like a GQ ad, like Obama. As for Edwards . . . well, out of respect to his wife I'd best be silent.
Absolutely. He should feel honored to get an endorsement from a material girl. She would make a great spokesperson for him since everyone holds her views in such high regard./s
Don't take this as a flame, but is that like saying that Moe is the 'smart' Stooge?
Thanks Madonna for your sage, and sound, advice.
They view his positions on global warming to be the mainstream opinion in the country ("the science has been decided"), and there's NOTHING more important than saving the polar bears. Plus, they'd love his strong antiwar stance.
Picking a candidate based on amount of relevant experience alone, they'd see his being former VP along with his senate experience makes him more qualified that whoever our nominee will be.
But I thought Madonna was a Wesley Clark girl. I think she was even part of his strategy group. Isn't the perfumed prince running again?
I have no idea. I haven't been paying much attention to what kooks they're parading out this year.
Compared to everyone else, he has some substance
Yes he does, quite a bit of it. Lots of hot air too. Since all of them are frauds & liars IMO he is the king of them all.
You and I should bookmark this page so we can point to our ace prediction skills after Gore is nominated. I sensed a huge shift of liberal consciousness on Oscar night. Sort of a drunken lurch to the left.
The other surprise nominee might be Pelosi...a woman to replace tattered and tarnished Hil'. But she doesn't have the glitter of Gore and his Oscar.
True, but she would probably throw her support behind Boy George if he/she/it were running. So this is breaking news why?
A Dem fool playing pocket pool.
