This is like Cindy Sheehan, normal sympathy runs out fast when
they use the situation to advance themselves or their agenda.

Yes, probably stems from the same narcissistic impulse.

I'm not convinced that 1/2 of the country thinks. I suspect it's closer to 1/4. And, that might be optimistic.

I wish her the best. The disease is only controllable until it hits a vital organ.

I do question her decision to encourage her husband to stay in the campaign and travel with him, though.

She has two young kids at home who are probably scared to death about losing their mother and you'd think she'd put the kids ahead of her husband's Presidential ambitions.

Couldn't have said it better. The man is twice as gross as Clinton.

How can you tell a politician is in trouble, caught in a lie or about to be indicted?

They suddenly announce a personal crisis but promise to stay the course.

having seen the videos of the press conference...

I agree with you.
Leave these people alone!

I will continue to not like Edwards or his policies. But this is not the time to talk about how he choses to do whatever he and his wife decide.

She wants to go ahead and live a normal life...who knows how long she will be this healthy? let them go ahead with their life. This seems to be more HER decision than even his. I respect that.

"Could be she doesn't want him to stop campaigning and wants what is left of her life to be as normal as possible. Not to have the family life become a death watch for her but to go one as normally as possible."

It could be that is her wish, but as a loving husband and father he should be able to convince her that they don't need any money and that he want's to spend more time with his family. It wouldn't have to be a "death watch".

In my opinion, he's a sawed off little scumbag puke who only cares about himself.

I just got home. My daughter and I were talking about this. I asked her if she thought I would have ever done anything like this after my husband was told he had terminal liver cancer. She said, "Of course not". When he was admitted to the hospital for his last few days, I did not leave his bedside. I would sit there and silently cry.

If the Breck girl and his spouse were Republicans, the Antique Media would be hammering the Breck girl for being such a crass unfeeling A**hole as to continue pursuing his selfish ambitions instead of suspending it or abandoning it to spend time with his dying wife and his two crumb crunchers (who will find this time very difficult) ...

I'm sorry. I lost my husband in July 2006 and I never left his side. How could I do something like that to someone I had loved for over 40 years?

It's the Dem/Lib current way of doing things: hearkening back to the 60s with the slogan "the personal is the political", as if there is some exclusively PARTISAN element just ready for the exploiting about cancer (believe me, they will find it)/ I have sympathy for her as a sick person, but none for him if as you suggest, he barrels right on through the campaign when and if she gets sicker. His campaign would backfire right quick if the perception grows that he should be attending to his sick wife and not his "ambitions". The way things like this work, though, if that she could very well agree to make it known that SHE WOULD NOT LET HIM QUIT, that she is willing to MARTYR herself for his Presidential bid, because HIS MESSAGE IS SO IMPORTANT WE JUST CAN'T QUIT. THis could very well happen/ I don't think he has much of a chance to win the nomination, but maybe this thing they've agreed to do now is seen as his ONLY chance. As for Elizabeth Edwards, she is the one who came out during the last campaign and said that Cheney's daughter was "fair game" insofar as their campaign was not willing just to leave her alone as a private person who happened to be a Lesbian, but instead, in effect, OUTED her, like the wonderful gay-friendly Party they are. Those words, from the handmaiden/wife of the running mate were about the most despicable I have ever heard in a campaign, a NEW LOW in campaign behavior. Maybe she will come to some reckoning with herself and her soul, the way hardball political hitman Lee Atwater did when he got terribly sick back during the first George Bush administration.

he sucks and he'll drag around his wife to have a pity-party.

what a pathetic asshat....

Let's think, have my wife at home recuperating or drag her around the country eating crappy food, rotten sleep schedule, high stress factor, exposure to multiple infections that weaken the immune system...

yeah, he's a "compassionate" democrat.....it's all about him and his hair...

he's more of a b#tch than hillary.

I agree. I am not surprised that she would want him to continue with the campaign, but IMO he should put his wife and children first at this difficult time. My mother was a longterm breast cancer survivor until they found a "hot spot" on one of her ribs. Five years later, she was dead.

Breast metastasis into the bone is incurable - except by divine healing. John Edwards is a relatively young man and has plenty of time to run for POTUS later. I'm sure that he has convinced himself that continuing his campaign is
what Elizabeth really wants because to continue is what HE really wants.

I predict that this little worm of a man will withdraw from the campaign within two weeks due to public opinion. This will, as you say, allow him to run for POTUS at a later date, thus enlisting the pity factor of how he withdrew for his wife's sake and is now back to lead the country. Stage IV diagnosis is grim, at best. He should spend the next 2 years having fun with her and his children.

Prayers for Mrs. Edwards and her children.

"I think they are both stunned and on autopilot. Just four days ago, life was "normal"...and then this."

I agree. Suddenly the world turns upside down and you do your best to try to hang on to the routine. Anyone who has had a friend or loved one touched by cancer can empathize with their plight. I hope for a miracle for them.

From Bonetumor.org:

"The average survival after the diagnosis of a breast cancer metastasis to bone has dramatically improved to about 24 - 36 months."
