Edwards to Suspend Campaign (Update: Wife's cancer has returned - Does not suspend Campaign)
The Politico ^ | March 22, 2007 | Ben Smith

Posted on 03/22/2007 8:23:49 AM PDT by kddid

John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.

"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."

"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.

As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

Maybe they are hoping for a miracle
there are a lot of maybe's
He didn't call it bone cancer .. they called it cancer that is in the bone
He also said it wasn't curable but that it was treatable
He also said it was like diabetes .. it not curable but it's treatable

You and I realize what she is up against .. and it's ain't like diabetes

And he's going to to CA tomorrow!

This was all about giving his sorry and sagging campaign a jump start.

I'm not alone to suggest this was a photo op.

No you're not. I can't recall a more despicable political stunt in my life. He's basically condemned his wife to spending the rest of her life either alone, or on the campaign trail. Even worse, he's depriving those children of precious, precious time that should be spent with their mom in her final days.

Talk about blind, reckless ambition. John Edwards is more rotten than I'd ever imagined.

I tink he should suspend, and I bet he does when they get the final results. The Oncologist at the news conference, thought there may be cancer on her lung. The final reports aren't in yet. Until they are, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

OK, I AM being judgemental here and I will say it..
While I acknowledge that she may have told him to continue with his campaign, the man is an A$$ for continuing his quest for office that he will NEVER win.

He needs to put his ambitions on hold and take care of his wife.

There is quite a difference in not cowering in the corner and calling a press conference at high noon (at the very spot they were married, no less), isn't there?

You can fight like hell, but you can fight together; he's going to be gone and leaving the heavy lifting to others.

All for the good of the country, mind you.

Not all of us:

John 8:41-47

"We are not illegitimate children," they protested. "The only Father we have is God himself."

42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

They're both educated people. They both know his chances are next to zero.

True, they are educated ... but they are holding out for hope

I can't really blame them there

In time they will have to face reality and make some serious decisions

And yes, I do think they we being calculating when they scheduled this presser

Why doesn't he already know about bone cancer?

He knows.

First of all, the doctors have already talked to them about what this means. And second, he didn't become a highly-successful trial attorney by being an ignorant fool. It's pretty common knowledge that when breast cancer spreads to the bone, it's going to be fatal.

I imagine they'll conduct additional tests to see if it has spread to other organs.

John knows all this, and he used today's event to get huge publicity, sympathy, and campaign donations.

If he dropped out now, he'd be a nobody in four or eight years when he could run again.

I now hold him in lower esteem than I even thought possible. If we find out that his campaign leaked the false story of suspending the campaign in order to make the press conference even more dramatic, I doubt I could contain my outrage.

they have not had a lot of time to absorb this new prognosis, and what it means, and there could be a lot of denial involved. who could blame them?

I heard on the radio news that SHE is going to continue on the campaign trail...and some "doctor" said that it will be "treated like a chronic illness"...

I just think these people are in la-la land.

That's what I wondered; it hasn't been typed yet, so they are speaking in generalities.

NN, did you see the thing about the lung?
