Edwards to Suspend Campaign (Update: Wife's cancer has returned - Does not suspend Campaign)
The Politico ^ | March 22, 2007 | Ben Smith

Posted on 03/22/2007 8:23:49 AM PDT by kddid

John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.

"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."

"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.

As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

Not a good sign.

Right, but they both seem positive.

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but now I'm fast moving into the "he's using this for his own benefit" column

I am starting to agree with you on the above stmt. Regardless, I hope all works out for her and her health. They do seem to love each other and care a lot about each other.

Not that it makes any difference, but isn't Mrs. Edwards a practicing DUmmy?

I think it is her that wants to keep the campaign going and to keep their life normal while dealing with this all

When my father had cancer .. he still worked and did all the normal stuff like he always did till he couldn't do it any more

It was his way of not giving up the fight

I will not be voting for the Breck Girl. He is loonier than Algore, and that is saying something.

The irony of this situation is that she actually had more work done for her yesterday than most cancer patients would have had done in a month.

They don't seem to understand they ARE different than we are.

You could be right; given the "feeling" voters we have, this could be like a script right out of a movie.

I agree with you. He is not President -- NOW -- and this news conference seems to me an attempt to use her tragedy to benefit his campaign... Disgusting!

Based on the experience of those near and dear to me, breast cancer in this stage is pretty much a crap shoot. Until they have a clear metric on precise type and level of aggressiveness, there isn't much that can be offered in the way of a prediction. This is going to take some further study. The diabetes analogy is usually fairly accurate.

And... there's an amazing amount of research in chemo going on, some of it with quite encouraging results. So I think the only thing you can say with certainty is, "we'll see".

I'll pray for the entire Edwards family as they go through this ordeal.

To suspend the campaign is the absolutely right thing to do, and I'll give Edwards credit for doing the right thing.

Oh, she looks like the woman behind the throne.

Leaving the graveness of her illness aside, we're going to be treated to MONTHS of how wonderful John is for Elizabeth.

Even if she really does, he should not be using this to call a news conference.. the news conference is unseemly.
