Edwards to Suspend Campaign (Update: Wife's cancer has returned - Does not suspend Campaign)
The Politico ^ | March 22, 2007 | Ben Smith

Posted on 03/22/2007 8:23:49 AM PDT by kddid

John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.

"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."

"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.

As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

Guys, I went to the official Edwards for President and sent a message to him. It might be a nice gesture if we were to "Freep" his site with "get-well and God-Bless" messages for him and his family.

We made fun of Edwards for some of his personal foilbles

I dislike the man's political agenda entirely. It isn't about personal foibles, like his pretty boy grooming. He's a sleazy trial lawyer who has channeled the voice of a dead child and Jesus Himself.

He has lied about the positions of the Right. I dislike this man. I don't wish him personal tragedy in his life but I oppose him for more than "personal foibles". I dislike his professional career.

Say whatever else you want about Edwards, he is a man with his priorities in the right order. Family first.

I wish Mrs. Edwards the best and a full recovery.
I just hope all the good doctors were not driven from her state by high insurance premiums exacerbated by her husband's phony channeling.

I don't remember - I had a baby around that time, and I lost several months :-).

Well, this thread isn't about his personal career, so you can run off and find one that is.

That's what class IS. Behaving at a higher level just because it's right. Not lowering yourself because others behave worse.

Very well said, ohioWfan. I am so pleased with the comments on this thread showing compassion for Mrs. Edwards and her family. Prayers for them all.

Edwards did the right thing. Does anyone think Hillary would drop out if Bill had another heart attack? Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Edwards and her family.

There are some who are of the mind that a Clinton/Wellstone funeral on tv could be just the thing for Mrs. Clinton to get the sympathy vote AND drop years of political baggage.

Once it gets that far............

Yes, I know, but she still remains hopeful, as of the last time I saw her.

One can only have hope and hold on to it.

Wow. Don't actually READ the article excerpts, do you? It's right there: she had breast cancer in 2004.

Kind of explains your cynical view that we can't fight cancer and AIDS at the same time. It isn't a zero sum game and HIV/AIDS research has expanded our knowledge of disease and physiology considerably. Let me guess, you would have kept the GRID name for AIDS.

I will pray for Elizabeth Edwards. Regardless of my feelings about her husband's politics, he is putting his family above his aspirations to be President. He's doing the right thing by loving and supporting his wife. When a family member is diagnosed with cancer, it takes over all of your thoughts and energy. May God bless this family and bring Elizabeth Edwards a full and complete recovery.

Cancer strikes men, women, children from all races, colors, creeds, religions, politics and walks of life. It has no favorites and cares not about age, gender or anything else. It kills!

God bless Elizabeth Edwards. I hope she will overcome this reoccurance so that she can raise her children and be with them. It must be awful to lose a parent so young. Prayers all around for Elizabeth Edwards. Pray to St. Jude and to St. Peregrine. We're with you Elizabeth and will pray for you to continue your strength and courage in the face of this "bump in the road." God bless.

What a sad sad day for the family. I do not agree with their politics but she is far too young and far too needed by her children to suffer so. Prayers for the Edwards family.
