(AP) "The pet food linked to the deaths of 16 animals has shown no signs of contamination, the manufacturer says, and the company cannot explain why some of the cats and dog that ate it developed acute kidney failure and died."

I'll tell you what, if I paid good money for pet food and it killed my dog, I'd sue too.

I hope they get to the bottom of it. I don't use the brands I saw on the list, but a few minutes ago I went out to the patio, and there it was - kitty puke. I suspect that the culprit is going to be found in the "gravy" types of cat foods. I just threw away all the cans of food that were "in gravy."

How sure is everyone that it is the pet food?

Any reports of senior citizens or homeless people keeling over after eating it?

and there it was - kitty puke.

How did you know it was kitty puke? Could it be that you have SEEN kitty puke before this pet food scare? Could it be that many things cause cats to puke?

Write this down....I told my husband that this story was screwy.

Recently my dachshund died...of kidney failure. The dog was ten years old and had been sick for an entire year. When dogs go down, their kidneys are usually the first to go. Or so my Vet tells me.

Now suppose my dog had been eating the pet food named? The dog actually died of natural causes but technically, it was kidney failure. Yet I could have blamed the dog food, right? Maybe by mistake but it could be.

Further, I belong to a Yahoo dog news group. Until this pet food thing, I didn't even know I belonged to the group! All of a sudden my in-box is filled with emails about this pet food thing going on.

My suspicion here is that this is an Internet urban myth, a series of coincidences either in error or intentionally whipped into a frenzy.

I've yet to see any interview or read a word about this that makes me believe there's truth to any of it.

I've never seen a canned food that I would feed my pet. The meat in these foods is called 3-D and it is mostly moisture. Dead, diseased or dying. I have seen it made and been to their rendering plants. Its nauseating. Dry food for my animals.

Or, that it isn't being contaminated after manufacture by some animal rights wacko who thinks domestic animals are better off dead than living as some humans toy.

Thanks. I have two cats, both are adopted strays. The one I am worried about is the younger. We got her in July after she turned up at my M/I/L's house in the country. The other cat is tougher and might be able to survive a bad experience with tainted food. I have noticed that this has happened last year also. The older cat got sick and seemed not to want to eat. I think I had purchased some of the other brands that were listed, but I can't be sure. Makes me sad that it has taken so long for this to be verified. Anyway, now that the information has become widespread, I have paid more attention to the "gravy" labels, and sure enough, one of the cans I opened today was "in gravy."

Could also be worms. Whenever my cat used to puke,it meant it was "shot time".

Well Dan, this morning there was no puke on the patio. And a few minutes ago, voila - there was puke! The shape of the particles was roughly similar to the shape of the food that I fed the cats. And surprise surprise, yes Dan, I HAVE personally seen kitty puke before this pet scare! And I believe then, as I do now, that it was the food from the cans that was probably the fault. If you want, I can package up the sample from the patio and mail it to you.

My cat, 17 years old, had complete kidney failure after I switched to Iams Senior based on a "recommendation" from his vet Dec 19th. and died on Dec. 27th.

I lost my Jack Russell terrier in August of last year. He was 14, so we assumed it something brought on by old age. But I had been feeding him "slices in gravy" dog food, and suddenly he just quit eating. He had been healthy as could be.

I now suspect that this "disease", whatever it is, has been going on for a lot longer than 3 months.

But I could be very wrong.
