Can anyone explain to me just what the heck is "carbon sequestration"?

Carbon sequestration is removing carbon in the form of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Trees do this. The ocean does it. Industrial plants that produce compressed gases do it.

My faviorite form of carbon sequestration involves putting it in solution in tightly sealed containers in my basement, with an occasional test release to make sure everything is working properly.

I figure I can store several cases of sequestered carbon. Where do I get my carbon credits to buy more cases?

It's what we used to call a "Dump" or landfill where trees, leaves, lawn clippings, and so on were buried preventing them from breaking down and returning to the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide.

We are now required by the environmentally enlightened to pay to have these materials sent to a composting facility where bacteria converts them back into Carbon dioxide and Methane.

Go Figure
