Yesterday, Congressmen Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) held a conference call with reporters in which they announced their intention to introduce a "comprehensive immigration reform" bill on Thursday. There were few substantive details released at that time, but sources tell us that at the very least, the bill will contain some sort of amnesty provision for illegal aliens currently in the United States.
This morning, CongressDaily reports that Congressmen Flake and Gutierrez, who had been participating in negotiations with Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Ted Kennedy (D-MA) about the components of a new immigration bill, have now decided to let the Senate move on its own track and forge ahead with their legislation in the House. One aide to Flake is quoted as saying, "The House has not had a chance to consider a comprehensive immigration bill."
Observers note that there has been discord in the Senate as Members have had difficulty pleasing both the demands of labor and big business. Nevertheless, Senator Kennedy issued a statement applauding the introduction of "comprehensive immigration reform" legislation in the House. The statement said, "While we're still negotiating in the Senate, I'm optimistic that we will have legislation soon."
NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!!!
Please call your Representatives TODAY and urge them to reject guest worker amnesty legislation. Tell them:
You oppose guest worker programs that displace American workers and depress wages; You oppose rewarding illegal immigration with a path to citizenship; Rewarding illegal immigration will only lead to more illegal immigration; and Granting amnesty is inherently unfair to those who play by the rules, apply through legal channels, and patiently wait in line to come to the United States. Your voices do make a difference!!! Yesterday, the New York Times reported that candidates campaigning in Iowa are hearing non-stop from voters who are upset at the prospect Congress will pass guest worker amnesty legislation. The paper writes: "The issue has become much more complicated as the presidential campaign has gotten under way, exposing the Republicans in particular to voters who are angry about what they see as porous borders, growing demands from immigrants on the social welfare and education systems and job losses that they link at least in part to a low-wage labor force coming over the border." In addition, PLEASE take time out of your busy schedules to attend town hall meetings! Go with your family, friends and neighbors to let your Representatives and Senators know how you feel. While you may not immediately see how persuasive you are, FAIR hears stories from Congressional staffers all the time about how immigration is one of the most important issues at district events. Members want to hear from their voters, and if you do not voice your opinion, the voices of special interests will prevail!
Stay tuned for more updates from FAIR.
Nifty idea - but how do you make them pay back-taxes on money that is not documented?
If such a bill, including amnest (by ANY NAME), is signed into law, I will not vote Republican again - period. That is enough to be a permananet deal-breaker. The Republican Party is doing to our country what we have so long voted Republican to prevent - selling us out and running us into oblivion.
Apparently, our vote (if for Dems or Repubs) don't really matter any more. All establishment politicians are hell-bent on ruining the United States. Neither party is any better than the other. When the "frontrunners" for the GOP side of the'08 election are as liberal on nearly every issue as Hitlery - that should be a sign. And the Republican party (backed by GW Bush and Co.) are right on board.
But I guess there are many here on FR who would argue that ANY Repub is better than a Dem. I firmly believe that the only remaining hope for America is a 3rd party. and since the establishment will never allow that to happend with the closed two-party system, we are very likely - screwed.
Thanks for the ping. Thanks to all contributors to this thread.
BTTT!
On May 1st, yet again, we will be harassed with another "Day without an Immigrant" Nation wide, disgusting protest march with demonstrations and boycott.
The American public overwhelmingly does NOT support this Shamnesty bill.
It must be stopped!
If they get their way, our country will become as bad as the countries they left.
The Bush family and their buddies sold their souls to the devil long ago (globalists, one-world government, all one big happy family, diversity, blah, blah, blah.
If he gets his wish to merge America, Mexico and Canada, guess where everyone will be? Not Mexico, not Canada. Guess who wants to be king?
WE'VE BEEN SOLD OUT BY TRAITORS.
A guest worker program would have become law if the House had compromised in May of 06. That was a mistake. The reasoning was that Amnesty could have be stalled until after Bush left office in 08. Unfortunately the GOP lost in 06 and there are too many RINOs left to filibuster the rats. Withholding money from the GOP is just flogging a dead horse. It will do nothing now, except make life easier for the rats.
bttt
Your point has merit. BUT, we can not count on that.
This must be slapped down with a flood of opposition.
Hunt out the fax websites and DO IT..
Have a bit of patriot fun and make just ONE phone call. If a majority of us make one call, it will be a flood of calls. And DO NOT wait for "the other guy" to do it.
Be the "other guy" and pick up the phone.
I am to the point that I really don't know what you can deny to an illegal anymore without getting yourself in trouble. Yesterday, it was pointed out that medicaid was due to illegals for a year when they have a baby. I am not sure if that means the whole famillyh or not. I have seen state bills that actually protect illegals in nursing homes more than legals.
I really don't know what you can legally ask this protected species of illegal aliens.
One thing I am going to do is buy a cheap cell phone and put an out of state area code on it. This is legal as I have done it before. I intend to call 2 sets of congress critters.
"I am to the point that I really don't know what you can deny to an illegal anymore without getting yourself in trouble."
We must be willing to challenge the system before this gets too out of hand. I'm not sure the Congress and the WH are good places to start. If they don't realize We're pissed and We're not going to take it anymore by now, more persuasive measures must be taken.
"It will do nothing now, except make life easier for the rats."
It doesn't matter who the rep is - Dem or GOP - they all understand that they won't get elected again if they go too far against their constituency.
They aren't stupid, they know that about 80% of the people who actually vote are against this.
