ROSTOV-ON-DON, March 21 (RIA Novosti) - Two Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters have collided in the Rostov Region in southern Russia, but both pilots survived the accident, a local police source said Wednesday.
The collision occurred near the Millerovo airfield in the afternoon, about 220 kilometers (130 miles) north of the regional center, Rostov-on-Don.
Both pilots have been transported to a nearby military hospital with minor facial lacerations, Air Force spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky said, adding that the crash did not cause any injuries to anyone on the ground, damage to ground installations or the environment.
"The pilots are alive," Drobyshevsky said. "They have been picked up by two Mi-8 rescue helicopters and brought to a military hospital at the Millerovo airfield."
The spokesman also said that the aircraft did not carry any combat payload at the time of the crash.
A team of military investigators has been dispatched to the crash site to probe the causes of the accident and the Military Prosecutor's Office of the North Caucasus Military District has opened a criminal investigation into the collision.
The MiG-29 Fulcrum is as a single-seat fighter-interceptor with excellent maneuverability and basic ground attack capability.
It was one of the Soviet Union's most important combat aircraft in the last years of the Cold War, and remains an important asset for the Russian Air Force. The aircraft has been exported to 27 countries, and is being updated with improved avionics and electronics to keep it in service well into the 21st century.
Pilots safe, planes destroyed. Perfect.
The Raptor would see them before they saw the Raptor. The only thing that would keep the Russians in competition would be Raptors having to return home to rearm.
That much Russian I know, already.
Glad pilots and peoples on the ground all OK.
It's just really bad taste to say smth like that .... so I thought I'd reciprocate. Maybe a little harsh but nichevo.
I'm not complaining!
You have to put it in the accusative case: not "tvaya mat' " but "tvoyu mat' ". You used nominative "tvoya" instead, and misspelled it. Also, singular "tovarishch", plural "tovarishchi".
Can't have everything. It'd be better if I could post in Cyrillic here but oh well.
Aren't Mig and Sukhoi two different companies.
Well, [to aggravate you further with the russian grammar] this emphatic clause "yob tvoyu mat' " is an interesting exception : it remains in singular, even when the addressees, like, say, "tovarishchi", are plural. Normal rules would require getting it in plural, too: "yob vashikh materej/matushek" would be needed, but is never used - just the clause in its regular singular, although singular pronoun 2nd person pronoun "tvoyu" could be substituted by 2nd person plural/polite singular "vashu". But "mother" ALWAYS remains in singular.
That's what happens when you bring a bottle of Cosack Vodka into the cockpit.
The Blue Angels they ain't.
Final Report: Tough Shitsky
As you can see I learned far too many of the blatnoi words.
God bless 'em. As a former aviator, I know what a nightmare this can be. I'm just praising God they're both safe.
All kidding aside.......their fighter pilots are pros. Doubt there was any such thing involved. :)
I have been told by several pilots that one weapon that the F-22 has that is seriously underestimated is supercruise. They say that at Mach 1.1 the F-22 can just pull away and has the range to extend beyond the agressors fuel capacity.
I'm wondering why an F22 would ever turn and run. In any case it would be the exception rather than the rule.
I've always been curious why anybody would buy the Saabs or whatever it is the French produce given that the concensus seems to be the two best products are Russian and American and if we don't sell it they will.
Most likely; out of weapons.
