You can easily get by with a 100 watt equivalent where normally only a 60 watt traditional bulb could be usedI'm replacing all my 60 watt old bulbs with 100 watt florescents. They're brighter, don't produce the high heat, will last longer, and cost less in the long run. Did have to get used to the 1/4 to 1/2 second delay after turning on the switch.

We moved into our house last year and used fluorescent in almost every lamp in the house.
Almost every single one has burned out.
One real bad thing about them is that they are not to be used in a lamp with a dimmer switch, like we have on every ceiling fan in the house.
I think that they are a joke.
