March 21, 2007 -- RUDY Giuliani's supporters call him "America's Mayor." But he is something more: the first serious presidential candidate in history with a vowel at the end of his name. Oddly, so far in this year of ethnic- and gender-identity politics, Rudy's Italian-American heritage hasn't been much of an issue. Much more attention has gone to Hillary's "favorite daughter" campaign, Barack Obama's quest for African-American authenticity, Bill Richardson self-depiction as the first Hispanic candidate and the Mormon beliefs of Mitt Romney.
Almost nobody has focused on Rudy as the Italian Stallion. Yet.
"Italian-Americans aren't usually thought of as an electoral bloc," says Dr. Diane Heith, a political scientist as St. John's University. "They aren't even polled separately."
Nobody even knows how many Italian-Americans there are. The 2000 census reported almost 16 million, making them the fourth largest white ethnic group - and the only one that experienced growth in the last decade. The National Italian American Foundation puts the number at 25 million, close to 10 percent of the population. Either way, it is possible that there are more Italian-American voters than either blacks or Hispanics.
Not only that, Italian-Americans are strategically located. In four states - New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Connecticut - they make up more than 15 percent of the population. They are also heavily concentrated in the key swing states of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Florida and California. These are mostly Democratic states; the Republicans haven't had a candidate who could challenge in all of them since Ronald Reagan.

Could it POSSIBLY be because he is an aging, bald-headed (we miss the comb-over RINO-rudy!) little man with a speech impediment (the lisp could be one reason this FABULOUS inner-city bureaucrat is all the rage with the gay community), and a nervous tick (watch ol' RINO-rudy speak, and you'll see it - the uncontrollable eyes WIDENING, then going back to "normal", then WIDENING again - what's with this guy, is there dain bramage?)?
This guy is NOT:
1. A "stallion" in any way shape or form.
2. "America's Mayor", as the left-wing media and the RINO-rudy-ROOTERS would have us believe.
And, most importantly...
RINO-rudy is NOT, I repeat NOT, a CONSERVATIVE.
He is NOT presidential material from a moral (RINO-rudy lacks morals in his personal life, and his view on abortion is immoral) or appearance standpoint (he'd be a PERFECT demonRAT, where moral misfits like bill clinton and appearance-challenged freaks like janet reno and madeline halfbright shine), and he is most especially NOT "REPUBLICAN" (not EVEN close, with his liberal support of abortion and gun control) presidential material.
RINO-rudy for Bronx Dog-Catcher 2008!!!
It was only a matter of time before even Rudy's battle with cancer became fodder.
As a cancer survivor, I find it particularly offensive.
It's funny. Before he imploded last year, the biggest FR argument against George Allen was that "Senators can't win."
If I had the time/desire to do a search I bet I could find a bunch of Thompson supporters reminding us just how long it's been since we elected a Senator.
Maybe, similar to last year's American Idol (maybe they could have a show titled FAUX Republican Idol, with RINO-rudy as the star), we could call the RINO-rudy-ROOTERS, the "Sell Your Soul Patrol" (RINO-rudy-ROOTERs: "Yeah, he has SOME liberal views, but, but, but, rudy's the ONLY one that can beat hillary!!!).
"SOME" liberal views?
More like a SHIITE-load of 'em!
RINO-rudy for Bronx Dog Catcher 2008!!!
As someone who has cared for family members with cancer, I too find it offensive. It's very inspiring that Rudy, and Tony Snow for that matter, and others like them, have not let cancer derail their journey. They are heroes to me.
He could play a Mafia kingpin on a new mob show titled, "The SopRINOS".
Oh, I love it!!!
Is Lance Armstrong less of a man because he had testicular cancer?
I'm a survivor of testicular cancer. I know the terminology.
Interesting post. I agree that Italian/Americans are generally not a monolithic voting block. They vote on issues and have quietly blended into society, and many have achieved considerable successes in their chosen fields. Justices Scalia and Alito, Vince Lombardi, Frank Sinatra quickly come to mind. However, my experience has been that nothing will galvanize It/Am more than having one of their own candidates for higher office made the object of ridicule based on their ethnicity by the opposition, both in the primaries, and in the general election. If that were to happen, even Nancy Pelosi would flip the switch for Rudy.
IMO RUdy is more the Italian Churchill
That "argument" was only applicable to Republicans.
The rule doesn't apply to Comrade Hillary or OsamaBama.
"I grew up in one of those heavily Italian states. I know those people. They will vote for Rudy and do so proudly."
Thats right see ...
Its gonna be like this:
He'll get his boys to dish out a lot of groceries and coal for the people.
Then he'll get his boys to bring the voters out.
Then count the votes again and again . . .
. . . till they added up right,
and he'll be elected.
I didn't say that. I merely provided a fact.
So Kennedy wasn't a major candidate?
James Monroe's two vowels cancel each other out?
Silent e's don't count for Fillmore, Coolidge, and Pierce?
LOL! There is a website called Italians for Rudy - it's in Italian of course but It's really interesting.
Are you inferring that just because he's Italian he's in the Mafia? Rudy took on the Mafia (even though they threatened to kill him) and brought down the crime Families of
* Paul "Big Paul" Castellano, head of the Gambino crime family
* Anthony "Fat Tony" Salerno, head of the Genovese crime family
Carmine "Junior" Persico, head of the Colombo Family
* Anthony "Tony Ducks" Corallo, head of the Lucchese crime family
* Philip "Rusty" Rastelli, head of the Bonanno family,
That man is no coward!
You have a problem with Italian Americans?
