'STALLION' RUDY

March 21, 2007 -- RUDY Giuliani's supporters call him "America's Mayor." But he is something more: the first serious presidential candidate in history with a vowel at the end of his name. Oddly, so far in this year of ethnic- and gender-identity politics, Rudy's Italian-American heritage hasn't been much of an issue. Much more attention has gone to Hillary's "favorite daughter" campaign, Barack Obama's quest for African-American authenticity, Bill Richardson self-depiction as the first Hispanic candidate and the Mormon beliefs of Mitt Romney.
Almost nobody has focused on Rudy as the Italian Stallion. Yet.
"Italian-Americans aren't usually thought of as an electoral bloc," says Dr. Diane Heith, a political scientist as St. John's University. "They aren't even polled separately."
Nobody even knows how many Italian-Americans there are. The 2000 census reported almost 16 million, making them the fourth largest white ethnic group - and the only one that experienced growth in the last decade. The National Italian American Foundation puts the number at 25 million, close to 10 percent of the population. Either way, it is possible that there are more Italian-American voters than either blacks or Hispanics.
Not only that, Italian-Americans are strategically located. In four states - New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Connecticut - they make up more than 15 percent of the population. They are also heavily concentrated in the key swing states of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Florida and California. These are mostly Democratic states; the Republicans haven't had a candidate who could challenge in all of them since Ronald Reagan.

my experience has been that nothing will galvanize It/Am more than having one of their own candidates for higher office made the object of ridicule based on their ethnicity by the oppositionAgree. As in post #48.

If Moses had come down from the mountain with clay tablets that told of Giuliani's wrongdoing, you would have attacked him as well. Quite possibly, since the tablets God wrote on were stone not clay.
You really do rely on questionable sources, don't you?

I said no such thing. I said I don't frequent the left wing sites. If I have ever ended up there, it was the result of a search through Google. Again, you lie.

Maybe because noone much cares about mere ethnicities amongst the white race....They also aren't as positively monolithic as certain other preferred minorities. Doubt it, they were at one time, I think it's got more to do with the mafia stereotype. The concentration in the northeast, hardly a Republican stronghold, is interesting, and a more evenly split group of voters simply increases the opportunity.

"I agreed with the facts of the story, not with the publisher of the site. You people have a way of shooting the messenger."
You sound like Dan Rather trying to defend the bogus anti-Bush National Guard documents during the 2004 presidential campaign.

Again, you try to put words there. I didn't claim that the Ten Commandments were on clay, you idiot. Read what I wrote.
I said that IF... You left wing wackos are out of control.
You either can't read, or choose to NOT read before you launch your Rudy spin control attacks.

I worked for several years (and had an enduring friendship with) a director who had prostate cancer. (Speaking of Italians, he directed many episodes of The Sopranos.) He was the object of many crushes by many ladies, (some very famous) and his illness never affected his vitality, sense of humor, flirtatious nature, and all-around charm. If anything it made him very open-hearted and understanding of people's problems and struggles.

What part of what I posted was not factual? You sound more like a Democrat who is trying to point the finger at the opponent, making accusations because you have no facts.
To: veronica
He (Thompson)
lacks experience however. Look at Thompson's resume and record, and you'll see that he is VASTLY more experienced, and more importantly - CONSERVATIVE, than the much vaunted (by the left-wing media and the RINO-rudy-ROOTERS) RINO-rudy is.

Again, if you post articles from leftwing sites, you are in essence frequenting them. Your "twinkie defense" doesn't hold water, to mix my metaphors.

He still screwed around. That's not good for the children, either. Better he decided to end it in front of them, THEN date the (young) woman, rather than giving them both heartache and a lesson in screwing around.

I can understand his attraction to Judi Nathan. While Donna Hanover was auditioning for the odious Vagina play, Judi, a trained health care professional, was no doubt showing concern and support for Rudy.

Thompson is a good man and actor. He has no administrative experience to speak of. His 8-year tenure in a Republican-controlled Senate was ordinary at best. The dems outmaneuvered him in every way in that Senate Committee he chaired that I believe was investigating Chinagate at the time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Facts are facts. When they are pulled up from a left wing site, it is rare that any conservative would use it. However, in Giuliani's case, the facts are there for all to see, and reported by several sources, not just the left wing site. Who really cares, except you Rudy Worshipers?
