That is not a cave because it is behind closed door and the donks were pushing for it to be open. Not a cave.

He supported Rumsfeld until the election results came in. Would you have subjected Rummy to the inquisition that was coming from the Dems? Rumsfeld's effectiveness was over, and that was no fault of GWB.

We let the President and Don Rumsfeld down.

Calling the President a coward has no place on FR. It never has.

President Bush needs to get out more ... none of us out here care about the "prosecutor controversy." The GOP needs to shake off the Beltway malaise and quit letting the old media set the agenda.

Exactly. Bush is best when he's talking directly to the American people. And he should do it in prime time. Those 10 am press conferences are nice but who gets to see them? He could be effective as hell but most of us will never know it because the only thing we'll hear about on the news is a soundbite of him mispronouncing nuclear, or some prima donna reporter being rude and disrespectful.

The 'rats are using everything in their arsenal to ruin this presidency in the minds of the American people and it's well past time for the WH to drop their new tone and FIGHT BACK! To hell with civility and cooperation and that canard called bipartisianship! Stop caving and start fighting!

I don't think W's a coward, never said that.

I can't take anymore of this death-by-a-thousand-cuts and I wish he'd hit back.

1. The news media hates a second term -- wants new faces, new stories, new policies; and historically, 2nd terms have generally not been kind to Presidents.

2. Proposal for a single six-year presidential term does not have merit. Without the opportunity to be re-elected, the President has no political capital to spend or acquire and becomees a lame duck from day one. Rather, the 22nd (?) Amendment which bars a third term should be repealed.

Yes. But he can no more do this than a fish can ride a bicycle.

Looks like it'll be like Rumsfeld. Swear undying goodwill and confidence in the man, then put an axe in the back of his head.

This Janus-style, 2 faced politicking is something I had sworn awhile back that I would *never* see from W. I regret that I have been proven wrong :-(

No, you didn't say that. Others here made the "no guts" comment.

If he came out swinging, the MSM would crucify him as "flailing wildly about", "shaken", "grasping at straws". GWB cannot win this media war by himself, and people here keep donating ammo to the enemy.

To be honest I think Gonzalez is an awful AG and I wanted Bush to fire him for a number of reasons...right up til the minute I heard Chucky Schumer demanding that he resign. I hope Bush stands strong until this all blows over.

The Republican National Committee called this afternoon for a donation – needless to say what I told them.

Hell GW stood by Rumsfield much longer than whining freepers here stood by him. I will not hold my breath for freepers to attack democrats and their dirty tricks as ferociusly as they attack GW on everyting. PATHETIC.

I like the 'eye for an eye' approach when it comes to dealing with the RATS. Actually, I think two eyes for an eye would be even better.

Rumsfeld declared publicly during a congressional hearing that he TWICE submitted his resignation to the President but it was refused. The THIRD time it was accepted. Regardless of how we might regard Rumsfeld's performance as SecDef, the President stood by him through a lot of controversy (Abu Ghraib et. al).

To suggest that the President did NOT stand by his SecDef is not particularly accurate. I respectfully suggest you go back and reconsider what you have posted.
