[Bill] Richardson says he'd tear down border wall
Austin American-Statesman ^ | 3/20/07 | W. Gardner Selby

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a Democratic aspirant for president in 2008, said Monday that the wall being erected on the U.S.-Mexico border needs to go.

"The wall should be torn down," Richardson told reporters after the Texas House and Senate approved resolutions in his honor.

"It's bad policy. It was done to get election votes," Richardson said, referring to congressional action last year authorizing construction of a wall along parts of the border. "And the next president should not build it. I wouldn't build it."

Richardson, 59, a former U.S. House member, energy secretary and ambassador to the United Nations, instead favors doubling the size of the U.S. Border Patrol and investing in technology to detect illegal immigrants.

He would also commit to supporting economic development throughout Latin America and urge Mexico's president, Felipe Calderon, to consider joint border patrols...

...Richardson's support for an earlier primary persuaded veteran Rep. Paul Moreno, D-El Paso, who had opposed changing the date. "The country can benefit," Moreno said. A February primary "gives us — Mexican Americans — more power."

If you can stand it, you can read the resolution here.

And, of course, it's not a "wall", it's a fence. And, I'm sure those "joint border patrols" would work great, just as long as you wanted Mexican-style political corruption to gain a foothold in the U.S. even more than it has already.

It's also unclear exactly whose agenda Richardson was actually supporting here, since he was named a "Special Envoy" by the Organization of American States to 'promote dialogue on issues... such as immigration and free trade'. Was this part of the "dialogue"?

If you want to shake up the presidential race, please go to the campaign appearances by Richardson and others and ask them questions about their positions. Tape record their answers, and then publicize it as much as possible. The preceding link has a question for him, as does this. And, here's one for Obama.

Don't rely on the MSM to ask questions, since they're just going to act as a transcription service.

Well, the Republicans are building an imaginary fence, so I suppose it makes sense for the Democrats to imagine tearing it down.

Both of these parties are becoming increasingly imaginary. I doubt that either will exist in their present form in ten years.

Exactly right:)

Here's the way Fred Thompson is thinking about the border as of this morning on Paul Harvey radio:

~snip~
".. A sovereign nation loses that status if it cannot secure its own borders and we are going to do whatever is necessary to do so, although our policies won’t be as harsh as yours are along your southern border..."

What a pandering a**hole.

I think Bill should say something like "if I am elected, I will lose fifty pounds!"

"The wall should be torn down," Richardson told reporters after the Texas House and Senate approved resolutions in his honor.....It's bad policy. It was done to get election votes," Richardson said.

As if his statement: "The wall should be torn down" is NOT issued "to get election votes????? Who's he kidding????

Not us. But unfortunately the media will help the sheeple to not see it that way.

He is that all-right....

but I think he doesn't have a clue as to the anger most Americans and legal immigrants hold for the illegals.

The minute chance that he had to win the 'rat primaries was disposed with his proposed disposal of the border fence....

It won't be easy. He'll probably need to raise taxes to do it.

Isn't this the same nitwit that declared a state of emergency in his state because they are being overrun by illegals???

I think he stole Rudy's play book. Everything he said is an exact match to what Rudy said.

Bill Richardson is the comic relief candidate.

He reminds me of Lou Costello.
