It's depressing that we've come to the point that we don't know what these reports mean. I used to think of Bush as a "his word is his bond" kind of guy. Now I am confused.

I'm not the biggest Bush fan in the world, but I'm getting sick of people dumping on him for this. The fract is, Gonzales is a lousy Attorney General and he screwed up. Bad. Pres. Bush should not use one bit of his political capital covering for him.

This is good news. The White House didn't have to leak this info if it didn't want to. The question is will Gonzales resign anyway. He saw what happened to Scooter Libby and maybe he wants to avoid that fate.

I didn't think that President Bush would throw his friend overboard. They are old friends from Texas and Gonzales helped President Bush tremendously with that DUI thing. You just don't abandon friends like that in their time of need.

Yep. This new tone thing is what has damaged this president. If not for 9/11, he would have been a one termer. It pains me to say that because I came to admire the man greatly when he was here in Texas. Washington DC changed the man.

The day a Republican tells the media just what you suggested and it gets alot of play is the day you will see Conservatives cheer for joy.

Predictably, 'conservatives' and 'Freepers' have chosen to attack rather than support the President during this difficult time . . . What did 'conservatives' think was going to happen after the 2006 elections? Weren't we all warned?

BTW: Does anyone remember what happened to Reagan and his administration in 1987 and most of 1988?!

Well, I do; it was a nightmare! If you recall, Reagan was so politically and personally shaken by the Iran-Contra scandal, the Stock Market crash and the resulting Democrat/media feeding frenzy that the White House DRASTICALLY curtailed his public appearances (PARTICULARLY his press conferences).

Additionally, Reagan was 'forced' to make MULTIPLE changes in both his cabinet and White House staff:

--Carlucci replaced Casper Weinberger at Defense
--new Secretary of Commerce
--new Secretary of Labor
--new Secretary of Transportation
Shortly thereafter, Thornburgh replaced Meese at Justice to become Reagan's THIRD Attorney General.

My thoughts exactly. I think I know why.

He is a typical business exectutive (Hawvad MBA dontcha know). Everyone I ever met demanded absolute loyalty but would never give it in return. Moment you were in trouble, you're on your own. The only reward a guy like that gives is promotions to his cronies....... who are most likely to be loyal.

Read it and weep. I wondered what a business man would be like as prez......can't say I like it any better than trying to survive in business.

I think the biggest mistake Bush made was that after 9/11 he did not clean house - just fire almost everyone - especially the Clinton left overs.

I could understand why he did not do so the first days of his first term - maybe feeling he was not politically powerful enough? It is understandable - but after 9/11 he should just have fired all the Clinton left overs - a bunch who I consider responsible for setting the ground work for 9/11.

Well, he sure has had me fooled all these years. Something about the guy has changed. Not on the war effort, in most cases, where I think he has changed a lot of his attitude about winning. But, he sure as hell sounds different on things than he did 4 or 5 years ago. Right now, basically, he is inept, in different, unable to govern. He has basically lost it in my opinion. And like A-holes, we all have one. You can love him if you desire. That is fine. But, I think Bush has hit the wall. He is done governing. He is just riding out his time. He will get little accomplished by Jan 20, 2009.

I think its the "scandal" the president wants. Scooter Libby and the V.P. are no longer in the press and Dubya's Promises to Latin America tour was virtually uncovered , especially those promises to work hard for mexican immigration.

This is a huge deflection the white house loves.
