Scientists blame Hollywood for increased fears over global warming

Leading climate change experts have thrown their weight behind two scientists who hit out at the "Hollywoodisation" of global warming.
Professors Paul Hardaker and Chris Collier, both Royal Meteorological Society figures, criticised fellow scientists they accuse of "overplaying" the message.
[...]
They sparked controversy after saying statements made by the highly respected American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) were not justified.
The AAAS said last month: "As expected, intensification of droughts, heatwaves, floods, wildfires, and severe storms is occurring, with a mounting toll on vulnerable ecosystems and societies.
"These events are early warning signs of even more devastating damage to come, some of which will be irreversible."
Professor Collier said that while he is not sceptical that such events could happen, it is important to be "honest" about the scientific evidence behind projected future impacts.
[...]
He said: "We must be careful not to sensationalise our side of the argument or Hollywoodise the argument otherwise you end up in an ever increasing cycle of claim and counter-claim.
"We have to be clear about what our level of understanding is and to be clear about where we are making judgements based on understanding."
Their comments were backed today by other leading figures in the debate.

"These events are early warning signs of even more devastating damage to come, some of which will be irreversible." The worst damage done was by glaciers grinding everything in their paths to smithereens.

"We have to be clear about what our level of understanding is and to be clear about where we are making judgements based on understanding." Looks like scientific establishment starts to be afraid of the backlash and exposure. They do not want science to degenerate into part of Politically Correct Circus, yet they are too cautious to challenge global warming lunacy openly.
So they hope that it is possible to weasel out of this trap without losing face and without serious damage to the science as a whole.

the "Hollywoodisation" of global warming
I've met plenty of people that think Al Gore did good by 'getting the issue out there.' All he did, as we are starting to see, is make any issue that could even remotely be connected to 'global warming' an object of ridicule.

I happened to watch the History Channel this past weekend, nonstop "the sky is falling" environmental bilge, so politically correct it makes you hair hurt.

Anything could happen, but any real scientist should be skeptical of claims they will happen when there is no evidence to back them up.Folks should be digging to find out WHO is footing the bill for Hollywood to make these assertions.

Yes! And add to that a sea level rise of nearly 400 feet! There is a researcher looking for archaeological evidence of villages in the Gulf of Mexico and when he's done he'll look in Long Island Sound, which 12,000 years ago was a valley that was likely populated.
According to Milankovitch theory, we will have 24,000 more years of warming, the vast majority of which will occur without Algor to help.

I haven't seen those. We don't watch TV as a rule and usually only to plug in a DVD or video. What's the commercial about?

That one is even worse!!!! What a snot!!!
The problem with both those commercials is that it treats the predictions of the alarmists as if they were fact, written in stone. No one KNOWS what's going to happen if the earth warms. The only thing you can say for sure is that it was warmer in the past than it is now and life survived.
