Thread 3
Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD
Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanityâs dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.
J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18
The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.
Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.
Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

What a coincidence, NASCAR race this afternoon.
As far mookie is concerned, I think the longer he remains in hiding, the more irrelevant he becomes. He couldn't even get a good riot going.
Thank you for not sailing today, WC...:)
Sounds like people, even his loyalists, are starting to get tired of it all...
Do you expect other?
The war on the ground is a proxy for the culture war, the war against Bush (separate in some ways from the culture war) and several other things (European vs. US vision of things, for one) at the same time.
New Finnish coalition ousts left-leaning gov’t
Published: 04.15.07, 23:09 / Israel News
Four Finnish parties agreed to form a new centre-right coalition government on Sunday, aiming to create jobs and increase social spending while cutting taxes and keeping state finances in surplus. Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen’s Centre Party will lead the 20-member cabinet, along with the conservative-leaning National Coalition Party, the Greens and the minority Swedish People’s Party.
The swing to the right in the elections meant the ousting of the left-leaning Social Democratic Party from Vanhanen’s cabinet, but the new coalition is broadly in agreement on maintaining the welfare system. (Reuters)

I can’t believe the depth of wishful thinking and intentional blinders out there, worn by people on all sides of the issues (not everybody of course, but way more than ought to be out there.)
You are welcome, I’m a far better sailor than to go anywhere on the heels of a strong front.
Woohoo, ya got the ‘50’...!!...:)
I love being out on the water... waiting for our weather to settle down too. 5 days of high winds and looks like a storm coming in from the NW.
Hamas: Kidnapping Soldiers Only Way To Free Terrorists
(IsraelNN.com) Hamas official Ayman Taha said Sunday, “Capturing Israeli soldiers remains the only way to release the [Arab] prisoners.” He encouraged protestors in central Gaza to continue to demonstrate on “Prisoners’ Day” and to encourage further kidnappings.
“Hamas is fully aware of the solution to end the [prisoners’] ordeal and the next steps” of more kidnappings, Taha added.
