Republican officials operating at the behest of the White House have begun seeking a possible successor to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose support among GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill has collapsed, according to party sources familiar with the discussions.

I agree totally. Bush finds some Texas buddy or affirmative action hire and sticks them in an important position. Competence or lack of it isn't even a consideration. In Gonzales he has a Casper Milquetoast who can't even defend Bush's right to fire these people. I never saw a more incompetent or gutless administration. I very much doubt anybody even pays attention anymore when Bush gives a speech. He's becoming almost irrelevant.
I say appoint Rudy Giuliani, with his prosecutorial experience, he would be a natural. ;)
But such an appointment would require the political shrewdness we saw in GWB's FIRST term.
And President Bush 1.0 has sadly gone the way of Windows 98.

Is Alberto one of the key players in seeing that the border guards were locked up for interfering with Mexican drug smugglers crossing the border? Maybe the Democrats are simply using this for political hay as Republicans siding with Americans are battling the Bush Mexicana endgame. Let the Democrats have their field day. It's better to start taking out the internationalists in the Republican party.

It remains to be seen if it's true, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be a bit surprised at this point.
If Gonzales leaves, Bush will be lucky to get anyone but a complete moron to take his place. It would be the kiss of death for any ambitious prosecutor or politician to take it at this point.

Well, if it gets us someone willing to uphold the laws of the US I am all for it. Affirmative Action sucks.
What is wrong with the Republicans? Can't they fight? Everyone of them is going to go down in defeat without even a struggle.
I am sick and tired of this. I blame the republican senators and congressmen as well as Bush. They have almost as little spine as him. But at least they stand up to the WH. The WH stands up to no one when it comes to domestic politics.
