"Apologizing is always the first mistake and it's precisely the reason democrats always call for an apology."

This would explain some of the attitudes freepers have about governmental apologies over slavery and illegal Amerindian removal (tribes who had treaties with the government which weren't honored).

As for Gonzales, the firing of these attorneys wasn't illegal, so he shouldn't be punished for it.

Gonzales shouldn't be removed, but you bring up a point about "throwing out the race card" in a bad way. It's sort of condescending.

It's a quicksand.

Anyway, what's the big deal with all of this Gonzalez thing in layman's terms?

When I first saw this on the news, it was not really a big deal to me, or so I thought.

The real problem I believe is not Gonzales but Bush' unwillingness to fight dems.

THERE YOU GO. B-I-N-G-O!

It's just observation based on known facts.

I have never seen George Bush lie, nor have I ever seen him wimp out.

Since he gives the illusion of doing so now, I have to think there is a reason, and I can't think of anything that isn't alarming.

Sorry, but that's the way it is. I said a Rosary for him last night, and will continue to do so. I don't know what else to do.

Gonzales is just resigning to prepare for an opening on the Supreme Court.

This is a good opportunity for me to post something that's been on my mind. The President's trip to SA and the general situation now reminds me a lot of Clinton's apology trips, especially the one to Africa. Only difference was he really seemed to enjoy it.

It shouldn't be a big deal, that's why we're so concerned. The President can fire whatever US Attornies he wants. Nobody is alledging anything illegal went on. Well, the rats are but there's no 'there' there. The problem is that when they get a victim it just encourages them to go after somebody else. A certain momentum is established that can snowball into an admin killer.

Even Rush, yesterday, said he was totally flummoxed by the actions of Bush, constantly backing down from these people. Said he just could not understand it.

Good morning (or maybe not so good) to you.

Two items leap to mind, Miss Marple...Senator Kyl (Judiciary Committee), for whom previously I've had enormous respect, apparently was publicly bad-mouthing the AG (though I didn't get the quote)...then on FNC this morning their reporter covering this story in DC quoted unnamed Republicans on Capitol Hill as saying the following: "Gonzalez is President Bush's friend. WE will not spend a dime of OUR political capital trying to help him (the AG)".

What do these items tell me? That Republicans in Congress have conveyed their sentiments to the WH and the WH understands what they portend.

I don't buy that the President is so extremely altered that he would willy nilly dump someone who is as close to him as the AG. He hasn't changed THAT much; that is just ridiculous. It seems like a sad but true fact...the elected DC Republicans in Congress are behind this situation becoming so dire that we are reading and hearing these dire predictions.

For those who missed it, Rush's segment yesterday:

Chuck Schumer and the Stalinist Democrats are trying to end the Bush presidency and grab power. Why won't the White House fight back?
