Amid bipartisan calls for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation in a scandal over dismissals of eight federal prosecutors, the White House said Monday, We hope he stays. When asked if Gonzales will serve for the rest of President Bush's term, White House press secretary Tony Snow said, Well, we hope so.

Alberto is Toast.
Welcome back to Texas!
His heart is South of the Border and I believe he was an Architect for BUSH'S comprehensive immigration reform.
I really don't care what happens to Gonzales..
sw
Yup, this is the administration that is going to 'restore potency' to the party in two years. What leadership.
blaming the base for abandoning bush is like blaming customers for not patronizing a restaurant
leadership in america, particularly with conservatives, is earned, not taken or assumed
lead the base where they want to go, and surely be to god they will follow
take them to a southern border taco stand, and they'll jump ship every time
He knows. It just doesn't matter. Snow is a mouthpiece now, and his personal opinion, never very robust at that, is irrelevant.
Maybe he and Mel Martinez can move in together?
let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
oh the dems outside are frightful,
but the perks are so delightful,
and since we've no plan to follow,
let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

I cannot believe the GOP. They think that the media will love them for pulling the rug from under Gonzales and the White House. Disgusting.
Has Fred Thompson made any statements concerning this situation? I am curious to what his thoughts are on the situation.
True leaders emerge, they are not designated. Jimmuh Carter couldn't fight his way past arguments about the White House tennis court schedule. Ronald Reagan licked a 'rat majority in Congress who were deadset against him and had the media on their side with no Rush or blogosphere to help him out. He did it through leadership.
When Bush displayed leadership after 9/11 he had 90% approval and for a longer time than any of the pros and pundits could believe. Month after month. They were rubbing their eyes in disbelief. He came out fighting in 2002 and earned history-making gains for his party.
But after the 2004 election, the tough war president with the bullhorn disappeared and the Shrub who wasted his first eight months sucking up to Ted Kennedy re-emerged. We've been going downhill since Inauguration Day 2005.
This pathetic, unnecessary PR abortion over the attorneys and Gonzales just captures the essence of the last two years. Rudderless, someone called it. I agree. No one at the helm.
Your hatred is obvious and I feel sorry for you.
That's what I was thinking, but will our gutless, spineless and gonad-free "leaders" even use it? I think they'll be too timid and afraid to look "mean spirited". (IOW strong)
"When asked if Gonzales will serve for the rest of President Bush's term, White House press secretary Tony Snow said, Well, we hope so."
'But only if the jelly in our spines hardens.'
"This is one trait I believe that Rudy, Duncan Hunter and possibly Fred Thompson have."
Yup, I'm not hot on Rudy, but he wouldn't take guff and the Republic would survive. Same with Hunter and Thompson. Gingrich is just too conflicted. And the others are deserters.
I guess Harriet Miers will be the next AG.
[how could tony snow be so insulated from the base to not know we think the white house is becoming a finishing school for girls?
either he enjoys taking it up the butt, or he has taken to the elite northeastern perks of office]
I'm noting some general hostility on this thread, which I would like to second.
Oh Where, Oh Where have the Bushbots gone?
Oh Where Oh Where could they be?
With their ears cut short,
And their tails between their knees,
Oh where, oh where can they be?
LOL !!
(Thanks, I needed the laugh)
It's the biggest fake-job since Michael Jackson's marriage. Heres how Bush should handle it. Tell the press he may fire Gonzalez and announce something important, then say:
"I have spoken with AG Gonzales. I am not happy with his answers to Congress, and with what administration officials have said to the Congress and public. Although prior statements were true, but have been misinterepreted by members of Congress for political partisan reasons, they are not the bottom-line that needs to be made clear
What we should have been saying all along is that the Attorneys serve as a part of the Justice Dept and that these positions are determined through internal hiring processes. Attempts are made to obtain Senate approval for positions but we have the legal right to fill positions as needed to execute the laws and carry out Federal policies. The decisions we made in these processes were appropriate, ethical, legal, and fully within the proper scope of the executive branch. There is no need for Congress to investigate these internal decisions because they are wholly executive branch matters, and to engage in political witch hunt over our internal decisions is to fray our Constitutional separation of powers. I will resist the Democrat Congresses assault on the Constitution should they continue in this unwarranted attack, and I will keep Mr Gonzalez to help in defending our Constitution and laws."
But if they looking for a replacement, try this one - bring back John Ashcroft!
It's been said before: W. saves his fight for his own party. Remember how hard he fought us over Harriet Miers? Meanwhile the donks peep and he caves.
