They didn't need someone to protect their lives from rampant crime?

Let's get this 'protection' thing straight. The police have no duty to 'protect' anyone from anything. Their job is largely to show up after a crime has been committed and document it for a possible trial later on.

If they happent to stop one in progress, well that's great. But 'protecting' citizens from crime isn't in the job description.

Protecting oneself from miscreants is ones own job. And it's one that Rudy has shown he's dead set against allowing you to do.

He's also dead set (no pun intended) against allowing you to own the most effective tools for your own defense, namely firearms.

New Yorkers are strictly forbidden to carry handguns for their personal defense and Rudy supports that position 110%. He was also responsible for stripping New York residents, including one Freeper, of their legally owned firearms.

He's gone on record several times as supporting and in fact 'strengthening' the so called 'assault weapons ban'. Rudy is no friend to anyone who holds the BOR dear.

He should be rejected as a Presidential candidate outright for that reason alone.

The police is supposed to maintain law and order, not just stay home and then investigate crimes after they have been comitted.

As an aside, that is the attitude of the Democrats towards the terrorists: let's wait until they blow us up, then investigate, sort of and punish those directly responsible, but never mind going after the terrorist organizations.

Rudy WILL go after the terrorists.

When Rudy took office the violent crime rate in NYC was six times that of London. Today London's violent crime rate is six times that of NYC.

Obviously part of this is due to massive increases in crime in UK.

I realize the police are only rarely able to protect an individual against a particular criminal act.

However, they protect the public overall against crime by catching and locking up criminals, especially career criminals, the ones who victimize dozens or hundreds of people a year when on the street.

NYPD under Rudy went from one of the worst in the country to about the best at accomplishing this. The people of NYC are proportionately safer. This was accomplished in defiance of almost unanimous opposition by the liberal elite of the city.

You may consider Rudy's accomplishment in this regard inadequate reason to elect him President, but please don't try to downplay the significance of this huge change, created essentially by the determination of a single man.

Lets clarify what you said. People in NYC are not allowed to carry guns (or own them for that matter) unless they are rich or politically connected. People living upstate NY (north of westchester) can get a carry permit pretty easily and can carry as long as it's concealed. The process up here is ver similar to what most states have in place.

If a person owns guns and subjects themselves to the draconian gun laws in NYC, they deserve what they get for being foolish. All a person has to do is pick up and move (as I did). there is a mass exodus from large cities in the northeast- many people are voting with their feet.

With that being said, Rudy should NOT be the GOP candidate. He is a true liberal and can not be trusted.
