thanks saves us from having to go to that site to read this...
Well, a stupid reporter is as a stupid reporter does.
I hear you and do "recognize the authority of the US Military to decide if and when a crime has been committed." However, it appears to be prosecutorial overreach at this point. SSGT Wuterich is charged with 12 murders in the first 2 houses of Iraqis killed. However, he didn't fire any shots. How does that translate into murder?
It appears the "military brass" is making an example of this one Marine. He is currently charged with 18 of 22 "murders" in this incident. That's pretty incredible.
And all of these murder charges without autopsies, a "crime scene" that was unsecured for months, relatives who complain their compensation for the deaths was pitiful (thinking millions would have been better), a representative from our own Congress proclaiming these Marines cold-blooded murderers,....As for me, I'm a little skeptical at this point.
Yes, let's not give them the hits!
thanks.
i've wanted to court martial 60 minutes for the last 20 years.
This may come back to bite him in the backside. Personally, I don't see an upside to this interview from a defense strategy. Maybe some of the other lawyers do.
Grr... comes from editing "I'm watching" to "I've watched."
Just tuned in glad, to see that it was banned.
First, welcome to Free Republic.
Second, what the heck are you talking about?
The military has not decided a crime was committed. There has not been a single Article 32. At this point, there are unproven accusations in a 13,000 page NCIS investigative report. Even the Washington Post (to whom the report eas leaked) has said the evidence collected by NCIS is often confusing, conflicting, and contradictory.
General James Mattis is the penultimate authority in the Haditha case. The ultimate authority is the CIC, President Bush. No one is questioning their authority to adjudicate these cases.
Under the UCMJ, these Marines are innocent until proven guilty. They deserve a vigorous defense.
Love your post and your tagline.
BTTT! Thank you for that - I forgot to TiVo. Grrrr!
>.....I didn't have to look at Scott Pelley's condescending smarmy, look down his nose at SSgt. Wuterich.<
I was gone all day, getting home just a few minutes ago. I had forgotten to tape 60 minutes, but after reading the posts on this thread, I am glad. It must have been a terrible thing to watch, and I hope everyone who saw or heard it lets CBS know what they thought of the interview.
And I apologize to the young man for what Pelley did to him. The enemy is definitely within!
Hey, jude24
You could be right, you could be wrong - who knows. Have you read the overview of Neal Puckett, Frank Wuterich's lawyer, on Frank's website? Mr. Puckett is no dummy.
What do you think of the fact that Frank is charged with 18 of 22 preferred charges of murder in Haditha? Twelve of those were in the first two houses where he didn't even fire a shot. Why did they charge him with these murders? I have my own ideas, just wondering what you think.
Hiya, Star! You're better off reading the transcript. The interviewer was awful. The interview itself will maybe do some good.
US commanders in Iraq are reporting the same thing. Marines on patrol are insisting on wearing cameras on their helmets. They trust their training and themselves. But not the brass. Hell of a way to fight a war.
Haven't seen anyone on this thread mention that this is exactly what the terrorists planned for. They attacked and shot at the Marines from civilian locations, hiding behind women and children, hoping that iraqi muslims would die. Let's not forget the little schoolgirl who covered her ears before the blast.
Well, you've certainly read my rant several times by now - - Bush has put JAG and a bunch of other scumbag liberal Democrat lawyers in charge of this war and this is what you get. Our soldiers and Marines are torn between trying to memorize their "thirteen rules of engagement" and studying the UCMJ for when they are brought up on charges they gave an Iraqi civilian a dirty look.
It's a disgrace, and my respect for the Commander-in-Chief continues to diminish.
By the way, Red, do you happen to know which thread discussed the little girl who survived Haditha and said something like, "I covered my ears because I knew there was going to be an explosion."?
I thought I had that quote tagged somewhere, but I can't find it (at least not without killing a whole lot of time).
Thanks.
