WASHINGTON, March 18, 2007 About 350 Iraqi civilians and six coalition force members were treated for chlorine gas exposure after suicide bombers detonated chlorine- laden dump trucks in three separate incidents March 16, military officials reported.
The first suicide truck bomb containing chlorine gas detonated at a checkpoint northeast of Ramadi, injuring one coalition service member and an Iraqi civilian.
The second explosion occurred south of Fallujah near the town of Amiriyah. The Amiriyah police department reported that two policemen were killed in the blast and estimated that as many as 100 local citizens showed signs of chlorine exposure. Coalition forces confirmed that the Amiriyah citizens exposed to the chlorine were treated locally for symptoms ranging from minor skin and lung irritation to vomiting, military officials reported.
A third explosion occurred south of Fallujah in the Albu Issa region when a suicide bomber detonated a dump truck containing a 200-gallon chlorine tank rigged with explosives. Coalition forces responded to the attack and found about 250 local civilians suffering from symptoms related to chlorine exposure. Of those affected by the attack, four adults and seven children were evacuated to coalition medical facilities for further treatment, officials said.
Suicide car bombers have used chlorine against Iraqis in Anbar province five times since Jan. 28, military officials said.

But, but, we were told tht there were no Weapons of mass destructions in Iraq.

Right now all of the deaths/serious injuries that have occurred in these bombings appear to have been as a result of the explosion itself, not the chlorine gas. The heat of the blast neutralizes most of the chlorine. It will only be a matter of time before they figure out to use some small charges to simply release the gas without a huge explosion. Then you will probably see a much higher death toll, especially if it can be released into an area where there are limited routes out. One of the reasons that it was effective in WWI was that it was trench warfare, the troops had no place to go to get away from the gas.
