Once upon a time, feminists and socialists alike would have translated that as "subservience to the patriarchy." Now they seem to have rediscovered their roots as civil libertarians, at least when it's politically expedient. Consider the issue of the Armenian genocide. In 1998, the French-speaking wing of Belgium's Socialist Party (PS) co-sponsored legislation to criminalize denial of the Ottoman Empire's murder of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians, much as Holocaust denial is also against the law.
Yet for the past several years, the same PS has been blocking the process of criminalization it helped initiate, presumably in the service of free speech. God, this guy is dense. The left has no interest in universal liberation, other than people's money liberated from their wallets. It's a ruse. They want unquestioning submission as much as the Muslims. What stands in the way Western religion, culture and values. The left intends to aid the Muslims in breaking those.

Islam itself, like garden variety socialism, or outright Communism, as well as Nazism and fascism, are phenomenae of the left. Thats why so many lefties are drawn to it, or seem to be in sync with it. Its all about "Social Justice" myan. Witness the abject hatred on the left for Bush et.al. Alongside, indifference at best, if not the outright collusion with Islamic terrorists. The examples are too many to list. But here's one to contemplate.

It's only a matter of time before the same liberals who have spent their entire lives defending the right to commit blasphemy or obscenity begin campaigning against those very things . . . when they offend the "oppressed" and "other" moslems.
The glorification of the "noble savage" is an inherent contradiction in the "enlightened" outlook, going all the way back to the "enlightenment" itself. As I keep saying, just notice that the science departments spend all their time bashing "redneck Bible thumpers" and get along swimmingly with the apologists for Third World religious fundamentalism and deniers of logic, reason, and objective reality who run the humanities departments.

I believe there are some similarities but far greater differences. Unfortunately the socialists are largely too ignorant and myopic to realize this. Socialists seek to undermine their own nations' cultural confidence and nationalism in order to advance international socialism. Islamists seek to undermine the same things in order to advance Islamism. Thus the socialists are helping to open the door for the Islamists but the result will not be socialism, but rather Islamism.
The reason for the alliance between the socialist/progressive/liberal/democrat leftwing and Islam is because they have a common goal - capitalist America.
That's the bottom line. An America that is free and capitalist is the ultimate target.
It's not Israel.
It's not Pres. Bush (he's just "today's" target - not the ultimate target).
The leftwing wants a completely socialized, demoralized, robotic, cloned population - which Islam then knows will enable it to come in and enslave facing Mecca.
There's no mystery here.
One might ask if the left realizes that Islam spells its demise too - one might ask that....but its a foolish question. The left doesn't care and has demonstrated this before when Stalin linked up with Hitler.
The left only wants power - and doesn't care about the consequences of its actions. It's a "today" thing which is evidenced by its ponzie schemes which ipso fact have no future.

Americans (who know about this) can only hope this is not going to happen in the United States. But given the state of American socialists (be they openly socialist or calling themselves something else), I am not optomistic.

No, I don't think you overstate the case. However, I think the left is wrong if it thinks it will eventually win out over Islam.
It won't. The armed wing will win. Islam's adherents are willing to die for their cause - socialism is not. The communists are not suicidal.
I do have one teensy issue with your statement -it's not the democrat party - that's much too narrow. The democrat party is only one cell in a giant leftwing/socialist entity. It is worldwide - just as Islam's jihad is.
Hillary has described the right as a giant conspiracy - but in fact it is the left that is the giant entity. But it is not an armed wing.
Islam is both giant and armed. And well financed. And sitting on vital resources. And has the demographics.
