That is the most important issue with me to, I want someone with a spine. The firing of the attorneys was primarily about the failure to prosecute Democrat voter fraud. If we let them take away our voting rights, we will have lost everything. The social issues won't matter. They will have won.

Rudy's the only one that is on the scene that has the guts to stand up to the left.

"Rudy's the only one that is on the scene that has the guts to stand up to the left."

Or the right. That's the problem, because he is a LIBERAL.

If the anti-Rudy posters on this thread know about recent political history in GOP California politics, they would understand why California conservatives like Rudy.

Rudy gave Bill Simon his victory over Dick RINOrdan in the GOP GOV primary in 2002.

Even if his stances on abortion and gun control remain the worst they could be, we need a strong leader and an economic conservative - and moreover, one that can win.

By all means take the seemingly much easier path by sacrificing conservative principles in the hopes one socialist will defeat another. You could choose one who is consistently conservative but that would contradict your assumption all is already lost for any other candidate. A person voting for a candidate based on winning be the primary prerequisite will likely result in the long run getting the type of politician the voter doesn't want.

It happened in Connecticut when Republican Jodi Rell ran for Governor disguising herself as a Conservative. She won decisively. Since then her all her actions have been Hillary like and people are screaming for her head. The same will happen if Guiliani is elected.

No, he's only liberal on social issues, and frankly I think that they are issues that he just doesn't see as federal issues.

If you lose your voter rights, you have lost everything. Think about it. Giuliani was a tough prosecutor, he will not tolerate the selective prosecution by federal attorneys.

He's not too friendly with the unions, either, and I suspect that is your real gripe with Giuliani.

You know what, I would rather have Hillary. I would much rather that we lose with a little dignity than 'win' with a RINO & CINO that's almost identical to Hillary in every way that matters most.

This Catholic will vote for Fred Flintstone before he votes for Rudy Giuliani.

Even if I wasn't so 'obstinate' in my Cathlolic beliefs I don't think he'd do nearly as well in the general election as his fans claim he is doing leading up to the primaries. Social conservatives certainly aren't going to come out in droves to vote for him.

Smart conservatives are also realists. They understand that we need Rudy's leadership in the time of war and we must stop Hillary and he is the man to do it.

Excellent statement. Rudy with a conservative VP is a sure winner.

It's definitely getting to that point. I find it annoying for several reasons:

#1 The sheer number of "I love Rudy" posts.

#2 FReepers who have already determined the outcome of an election that is over a year away.

#3 FReepers who ignore Rudy's blatant opposition to many key conservative principles (as though its impossible to find a candidate who is both fiscally and social conservative, so let's sacrifice the one for the other).

Amazing how they can predict the future, isn't it. Maybe I should ask them for a few hot stock tips, too?

"State GOP lining up behind Giuliani. He's won support among California conservatives (& nationally)"

What a pity that the Republican party is settling for a big liberal like Giuliani simply because he's slightly less of a liberal than Hillary. America has changed so much that a pro-abortionist, pro-queer rights, pro-Affirmative Action, pro-illegal alien, anti-gun politician passes for a "conservative". We're sunk.

How can anyone believe that a true conservative could be elected mayor of NYC?This guy is as conservative as Michael Bloomberg.

"I expect to see you back here whining endlessly as President Hillary surrenders to the terrorists."

The only difference between Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton is that Hillary wears pants and Rudy likes to put a dress on now and then. The man is a farcical "Republican" whose about as 'conservative' as Ted Kennedy. In fact, on almost every single domestic issue Giuliani is Ted Kennedy.

I hasten to restate that my analysis of things here is entirely amateur - more casual common sense than anything else. Lest some of the Rudyphiles start demanding some "statistical proof" or somesuch.

How so ? The VP doesn't really matter . No VP is going to erase Rudy's Liberalism .

I got burned supporting Arnold, but I'll go with Giuliani. I'd prefer Newt but he has zero chance.

I like two things about Rudy:
a. Leadership + able to stand up for his principles
b. Tough stance - War on Terror

But...
a. Social issues - He's liberal.
b. Illegal immigration - He supports NYC as a "sanctuary city" for illegal immigrants and wants illegals to be "regularized."

The social issues and illegal immigration are just too important for me to ignore. I just can't give him a "pass" on these.

A nice guy, but my vote will go to a social conservative who will be tough on both the WOT and also illegal immigration.

When Giuliani eventually switches support to Fred Thompson or Gingrich.. wonder if he can take the Socialist Republicans in Mexifornia with him?..

Since any real republicans have long since move out of the State.. To Montana, Idaho or Arizona..

...but you'll find plenty of people here who would seemingly rather have Hillary than Rudy.

Really. Who?
