I'll say this. The movie isn't subtle, but it doesn't have to be. Sometimes stating the obvious is the last thing we'd expect in today's society. This movie is real art, because it appeals directly to that aspect of the human soul which few Americans even care to acknowledge these days. That part which knows that the thing that truly sets man apart from beast is that to a man, there are things more important than life itself. That's the legacy Leonidas' three hundred left us, whatever the failings of their society in life.
