U.S. will give visa to Iranian president

The U.S. will approve Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's request for a visa so he can visit the U.N. as the Security Council moves to impose additional sanctions against his country for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday that the United States has approved a U.S. visa for Ahmadinejad previously and will do so again, consistent with its obligations as host country for the United Nations.

Ahmadinejad has been a vociferous defender of his nation's nuclear efforts and a critic of the U.S.

On Thursday, the five permanent members of the Security Council — the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France_ along with Germany compromised on a sanctions package to step up pressure on the Islamic republic to suspend uranium enrichment. The full council will consider the measures in coming days.

At a rally Thursday in the central city of Meibod, Ahmadinejad said, "These threats won't have one iota of effect on the strong will of the Iranian nation."

Boy, things like this certainly make us look very weak and vulnerable to Arab eyes.

They must be very encouraged.

Why do you say that? This arrogant nutjob just might provide good intel, depending on who he talks to and how good our eavesdropping is.

I think we have already agreed by various treaties to allow countries' representatives access to the UN. I just hope we follow the letter of the treaty involving maximum distance and arrest him if he steps one foot outside his limit.

I'll stay out of NY before his time of arrival and during the duration of his stay. When are our leaders going to wake up? imanutjob has sworn to kill Americans. I would not give him the chance.

He needs to be taken into custody when he gets here and put on trial for his role in the American embassy hostage-taking nightmare. His victims should be allowed to confront him. Better yet, perhaps his plane will crash before he arrives.

At this time, I understand why the State Dept. is doing this. (though I don't agree)

HOWEVER - A country that repeatedly threatens other UN member countries shouldn't be in the UN. Period

We shouldn't have to arrest him. Allah should see to it that some unfortunate mechanical mishap occurs on his plane that will only be discovered after he has taken off back to Iran.

Forgot to say: get the UN out of the US, move it to Caracas once and for all and get it over with.

Seriously, relax. This is what makes America great. I have no problem with him coming here. I'm sure he and his party will be more than sufficiently "escorted". But, this is America the free. Let the world see that we are not like some small tin-horn country that would forbid entry.

I completely agree with you. Allow him to come to America and freely speak his mind. That's America!
