"...heard of any other FBI raids lately?"

Nope. I was working on my rosebushes outside today and clearing the landscaping of winter debris.

Have you heard of something interesting?
If so, obviously I missed it.

"or does it seem plausible that the FBI was looking for something?"

More than half of all FBI agents are forensic accountants specializing in fraud, corruption, political intrigues and related crimes.

Here is what I dug up: (from http://www.ana.co.jp/eng/aboutana/corporate/ir/pdf/lse/lse_060223.pdf )

Press Release Addressing Recent Reports Regarding
The Cargo Industry

Over the past several days, there have been media
reports related to possible illegal price fixing in the
air cargo industry by over a dozen major airlines based
in mult iple countries. In connection with this matter,
on February 14, 2006, U.S. federal agents visited our
New York office and interviewed one of our employees. In
addition, this employee was handed a “subpoena to testify
before a grand jury,” the primary purpose of which is
to require us to produce documents to the Department of
Justice. Furthermore, we understand that, on February 17,
2006, a purported class action law suit related to possible
illegal price fixing in the air cargo industry was filed
against 22 airlines, including us, by a purported
class of purchasers of air cargo services.

We are currently in the process of collecting further
information with respect to these events and determining
what actions, if any, to be taken.

I think it was just a coincidence. Fact is, she probably is based in LA, where the raids took place (in an area of the county with lots of Asians)....

"Oh really!, maybe we layoff the IRS..."

They're mostly interested in local, county, state, and federal corruption. Throw in some unions, special districts, foreign affairs (like a foreign bank setting up a front in the U.S., or money laundering involving a foreign bank or nation, N.Korea. Iran), the judiciary at all levels. Basically, any type of government corruption and illegalities and associated crooks or individuals guilty of federal crimes most of which have something to do with finances in one way of another.

Probably. But make no mistake -- things really ARE that bad, PC-wise.

they are innocent until proven guilty. however, if it were price fixing ("kakaku kaateru"), i would not be surprised. price fixing is as second nature to japanese business as passing gas is after an evening of mexican food.

You're getting too technical about this. What I meant is that the AP is such a PC-suckup, they had to have even a vaguely Asian-sounding name to slap on this story.

And you fell for it.

Aparently, AP had to make sure they had an Asian to report it.

Just like every story about immigration has an author with an hispanic surname.

Just back from 4-day RON in Guangzhou and HKG. Was on ANA part way (first class on AMEX points.) Great ride. It wasn't Singapore Airline, but what is?

What's problem with ANA????????

PS new Hong Kong sux. Jimmy's Kitchen sux. Place is great for wholesale business, but retail sux.

Macao used to be a 11 sq mile gambling den and whore house. They tore down the whore houses to build beautiful, modern gambling dens! It's a shame!

Daisy Nguyen. Personally, seems more probable that Daisy is American, not Asian.

Actually, since i've worked with hundreds of East asians in my life, this sounds like a non-native to me. For example, one girl I worked with recently was 'Iris' Fu Yuk Bing. So if reported, it'd be Iris Bing. They take Americanized first names if their birth name doesn't really jive with English. Shrug, not trying to start an argument, just pointing out my experience.
