I guess this may have been the first example of multi-culturalism.

Multi-racialism? There isn't much here to suggest multiculturalism. They were part of the Lapita culture (singular).

Now wait a minute... Euro-sources before 1492 (and from slightly thereafter) *say* that there were lands inhabited by people with no heads, I think their faces were in their bellies... ;')

I enjoy reading about anything that casts light onto what has actually happened in the South Pacific.
I live in the South Pacific, and it has a thoroughly mysterious past. It comprises Legend and heresay and untold acts of evil and violence and bloodshed... all unrecorded but probably not forgotten.
While, at the same time, encompassing one of the greatest conquests of mankind: the discovery and colonization of the previously-unoccupied South Pacific Islands. Using dugout canoes and stone-age culture.
A fascinating, intoxicating subject matter.
Let's have more! More, I say!

And many of them are practicing law and writing television scripts to this day.

There's an interesting discussion of ancient burial practices involving the severing of heads (mostly animal but also human) in Adrian Bailey's Caves of the Sun. Basically he argues that buried skulls were viewed as representing the Sun going into "hibernation" in a figurative "cave" at sunset/winter, with the expectation that the Sun would emerge from its "cave" again with the coming of spring; and this tied burial rituals into fertility rituals/beliefs.

"Religion of Peace alert?"
You may want to check the dates of this event and compare it with the the start of the major world religions.
