Thompson Seeking Political Operatives
"The hype over former Sen. Fred Thompson has some substance to it, as the actor-politician has already begun approaching experienced campaign hands in key states," according to the latest Evans-Novak Political Report.
"Thompson effectively embraced the Republican right when he ran for and entered the U.S. Senate. From the perspective of the Republican Party's conservative base, he stacks up well against each of the "Big Three" leading Republican candidates. His voting record (lifetime American Conservative Union rating: 86%) in the Senate is more conservative than that of Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain (lifetime ACU rating: 82%), none of his position-switches are nearly as bad or as recent as those of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), and nothing in his background is as negative as that of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R)."
"Given enough money, Thompson could make a good run at it by tearing down the conservative credentials of the 'Big Three' and then building himself up as a tax-cutting, pro-life former senator. His acting role on Law & Order does not hurt, either."
I was definitely "jacking" my own thread. That is quite perspicacious of you.
My law partners keep suggesting that it is time that I appoint a conservator for myself. The time is coming ever nearer.
Damn strong ticket in terms of both electability and conservatism.
I'll now leave you alone while in your current session.
"The real issue is which accent do Californians dislike most - a Southern accent or a New York accent?"
Speaking as a Californian with some early years in the Rocky Mountain states, I didn't like either type for quite awhile.
The typical stereotypes seemed to apply. The NY-Eastern types would be pushy big city folks. The Southern impression was of folks not too bright.
Many years in international business erased stereotypes. Sen. Sessions is one of the most consistently effective guys, when it comes to clear thinking and clear talking-accent or no accent.
And I had a boss from New Jersey, a stereotypical Italian guy. Smart as could be. Nice guy, too.
Something puzzles me. How do some people manage to not take on regional accents, or to shed same? Gingrich for example.
Bingo! Also Senator Inhofe had to take to the floor of the Senate with his speech on Theft of Nuclear Secrets when the Thompson investigation gave a bit of a whitewash to the whole deal. Half hearted attempt so when Thompson was one of four Senators to endorse McCain and campaign for him in 2000, Sen Inhofe came out for President Bush and went around the Country campaigning.,
He will have to ignite some passion among the populace, leading quickly to an influx of several million dollars.
Otherwise he will remain only a figure of interest, and at most a vp contender.
Pure drivel, to start off with Fred is a Lawyer, has practiced and won many important cases. He could raise tremendous amounts of money. He has great name recognition. He is plenty smart, also knows where a lot of the skeleton's are buried in Washington, and Hillary does not want to debate him. Just get behind him or leave him alone; he is the best Republican we can field.
A solid ticket.
Both men are excellent communicators.
*The reason Fred Thompson didn't want to stay in the Senate for long is because all the extra scrutiny kept him from doing his favorite hobby: Prowling the streets at night killing drug dealers.
Fred Thompson stated that the reason he was leaving the senate was because his daughter had died.
Your reason sounds like pure BC.
Thompson is stunningly untelegenic.
Whoops, I meant Tommy the Wisconsin governor
IIRC, you were on McCain's bandwagon in 2000. Now it's Rudy? If Fred runs, Fred wins. Even Pete Rose knows which way to bet on that one...
'I'd love to see him take JC Watts as his running mate...when it gets to that point.
A solid ticket.
Both men are excellent communicators'
Yes!! I would like to see that ticket!!
LOL.
ping, if you haven't seen this.
I hadn't seen it. I'm just booting up for the day.
Thanx.
