Based on his prior experience with the terrorists’ tactics and in light of the well-coordinated attacks against his Marines, it was evident to Chessani and others in the chain of command that the Marines were involved in a bona fide combat action that unfortunately resulted in the death of civilians. At the end of the day, the Marines did not choose the place to fight; the terrorist did, knowing that they would endanger the lives of civilians in the neighborhood, as they had done earlier in the year.

This is exactly right.

It is an utter disgrace that these Marines lives are being run through this....Disgraceful that they are being charged as they are.

I pray for a full acquittal. Which is exactly what needs to happen now that the ugly legal bureaucracy within the military has taken this course of action.

I pray the Thomas More Law Center has the legal muscle to correct this injustice. Seems like our brave warriors are getting it from both sides. What a sham shame.

According to news stories, higher echelons were even monitoring the action as it was taking place through radio traffic and remote controlled aircraft. Yet, none of these higher echelon commanders saw the need for further investigation.

I hope these are good men who will stand up and tell the truth. We've had enough "I don't recall" ... and "I was involved in something else when that occurred."

Gutless Bush sends men to risk their lives and does nothing to defend them.

I still can't help feeling very strongly that when all is said and done...

And they've dragged these riflemen through the mud and ruined their lives and their reputations...

And those of their families...

That they're going to be exonerated.

The stakes are even higher than the lives of those 8 Marines. It comes down to how much you're willing to micromanage people who are being shot at. I don't REALLY believe the Corps wants to go there.

It's the only branch of the service to CONSISTENTLY meet or exceed it's recruiting goals, and if people are routinely facing the prospect of murder charges, well...

The Corps is dead meat.

My prediction is acquittals all around, or bogus convictions on minor charges with suspended sentences or 6 months confinement. Something along those lines.

But if that does happen, as a veteran, that'll piss me off even more, because it will lend more credence to the belief that the prosecutions were a result of political pressure.

as a result of a grossly erroneous and inflammatory Time Magazine news lead, which military commanders in the field suspected was instigated by terrorist propaganda.

Now this is a lovely little piece of information.
