Suspected Muslim insurgents opened fire on nine Buddhists who were riding in a commuter van in Thailand's restive south Wednesday, killing all of them execution-style...
The attack prompted officials to step up security in the south, where a Muslim insurgency has claimed more than 2,000 lives since 2004.
Suspected insurgents bombed the van as it slowed into a curve in the road, which they also had blocked with a large tree trunk, said police Lt. Kitti Mankhong, a duty officer in the Yaha district of Yala province, where the attack occurred.
Armed with assault rifles, the attackers first shot at the driver and then opened the side door of the van and fired at each of the passengers, he said. The driver, who was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the face, was the only survivor from the morning attack.
"Everyone was shot in the head at close range, execution style,"
the Tuesday anniversary of the founding of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional, or National Revolution Front separatist group. Police had warned that insurgents might try to mark the anniversary with violence.

there goes that new 7/11 in our area
Of course. You wouldn't expect the Islamderthals to get into a stand up fight with anyone. They couldn't take on a moderately well armed troop of Girl Scouts and win. Brownies, maybe.
These Buddhists need to start arming themselves for self-defense.
I always get a kick out of how they call it "the restive south"....LOL.
Seeing as that's where 95% of the Muzzy violence takes place.
hmmmm, is Issan all that violent?
Another interesting media choice of words :
restive...
1. impatient of control, restraint, or delay, as persons; restless; uneasy.
2. refractory; stubborn.
3. refusing to go forward; balky: a restive horse.

East Timor withholds abuse report
The East Timorese Government has withheld publication of a report claiming as many as 180,000 civilians may have died as a result of Indonesia's quarter-century occupation of the former Portugese colony.
Leaked copies of the report by the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation (CRTR) point to alleged widespread abuses by the Indonesian military including rape, the use of napalm and the poisoning of food supplies.(more at link)

THE WEST PAPUAN CASE -HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES
Ever since the Indonesians set foot on Papuan soil, human rights abuses have been the rule of the day. In the antiquity or the dream time, the Indonesian quest had been Papuan slaves and the birds of paradise. Since 1962 however the quest has been for the rich mineral deposits [gold, copper, nickel, oil etc.], the vast virgin forest with its timber and the 'empty' land. The West Papuans have had to be removed from their land by hook or by crook. Political prisoners and detainees in Irian Jaya continue to be subjected to ill treatment and torture by police and military authorities, particularly in the early stages of their detention. Indonesian security forces have also been responsible for the extrajudicial execution and 'disappearances' of suspected OPM activists and sympathizers both in Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea.
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE GENOCIDE
Dr. Kees Lagerberg reported that an estimated 300,000 people had disappeared without trace. This is an awful lot of people in anybody's language, but it is more horrific if one considers that the estimated population of the territory was about 700,000 in the early 1960, and about one million in the 1980's, when Dr. Lagerberg made the claim. Thus 30% of the population has simply vanished from the face of this earth. A small portion of this could be explained, the aerial bombardment claimed 80,000 lives, exile and refugees at its highest [ 1984-1985] totaled 13,000, known massacres 13,000, that totals roughly 106,000. So, where did the remainder go? (more at link)
Islam slaughtering the indigenous peoples, business as usual for islam.
Drive-by shootings and bombings occur almost daily in Thailand's three Muslim-majority provinces Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani.
AP fails to give the most important little bit of information. The Buddhists have yet to retaliate, these are Muslim murders killing Buddhists and "moderate" Muslims who are trying to survive day by day. Yet every press depiction except Thai Language Newspapers, makes it seem as though the Muslims are justified in their violence. This is a case of Muslims methodically murdering everyone they don't like to get their own patch of "heaven on earth".
wow.
"300,000 people had disappeared without trace. This is an awful lot of people ..."
Looks like all moderate Muslims are dead.
I thought that was the definition of a moderate Muslim.

These days, most Australians are well and truly aware of the suffering that the people of East Timor went through before they finally gained their independence from Indonesia back in 1999. Much of the repression and violence in that conflict, of course, was attributed to militia groups formed and backed by the Indonesian military. Now, it seems that history might be repeating itself in the Indonesian province of West Papua - or Irian Jaya - where the locals are also after independence from Jakarta. Of late, there have been serious claims that Indonesian army-backed militias and Islamic extremists are working in tandem, provoking some damning allegations of ethnic cleansing and genocide. The report you are about to see has been put together here at Dateline, by Nick Lazaredes, from footage smuggled out of West Papua by human rights investigators. We should warn you, though, that you could find some of the pictures disturbing.

UNITED NATIONS INVOLVEMENT WITH THE
ACT OF SELF- DETERMINATION IN WEST IRIAN (INDONESIAN WEST NEW GUINEA) 1968 TO 1969
excerpt
The last stage in the betrayal of the people of West New Guinea is scheduled to begin today.... No amount of word twisting can change the ugly fact that an unsophisticated island people is being quite deliberately and openly cheated of its right, guaranteed by an international agreement reached under the aegis of the United Nations, to decide its own political future....
