Pete Rose revealed Wednesday that he bet on the Reds "every night" while he was manager of the team and that the Dowd Report was correct when it said he did so.

Hmmmm...
Any wierd timing involved in his admitting this?
Is he preparing to announce his candidacy for President? LOL!
Yeah, you're liar, Pete. That's why he changed his mind.
I always thought the most graceful way out of this was to admit that he bet on his team--to win. He then did everything in his power to ensure that outcome.
But if he's saying he bet every night, he certainly wouldn't bet on them to win every night.
And if he did bet on them to lose, then he and his 4100 hits will never see Cooperstown.
Rose said that he believed in his team so much that he bet on them to win every night.
"I bet on my team to win every night because I love my team, I believe in my team," Rose said. "I did everything in my power every night to win that game."

So, Pete, did you leave your ace pitcher in an inning too long to cover your bets? How much did betting on your team affect the job you were doing?
Did you ever read the RULES?
I have your rookie card, but you don't belong in the Hall.
Personally, I have no use for Rose. He violated Major League Baseball's most sacrosanct rule, one that goes to the very integrity of the game. Still, knowing how competitive he was, I think it is reasonably possible that when he bet on his own team, he bet that they would win.
One of the biggest losers in sports.
Had it all, and is now a laughingstock
>>>Rose said that he believed in his team so much that he bet on them to win every night.
In so doing, was he making short term decision to win that day that may have impacted events later in the season? I think that is the concern with betting on one's own team. For example, overuse of a closer who may benefit from a day off here and there or playing someone who might be a little bit injured.
The only reason professional sports exist is to give the gambling industry something to bet on.
Without professional sports gambling, professional sports players would make five figures a year instead of seven or more, and cities would not lavish millions of taxpayer dollars on sporting venues.
I am offended by the sports commissioners' pretense of being so lilly-white and offended about Pete's participation in the very industry that makes their industry possible.
One can never believe ANYTHING Pete Rose says.

Thanks for coming clean Pete, I mean way to go. I appreciate you taking the pastime I love and using it like a Las Vegas crackwhore.
Go screw yourself, Pete and I hope they put you in the Hall of Fame, right next to Ty Cobb, The BlackSox and Jose Conseco.

I'll have to think about this one.
He was sometimes making calls from the dugout to place bets. If it was the same thing every night, why rush to get the bet in?
But if anybody's going to bet on their team to win 162 games, it's Rose.
Nice to see a Freeper that actually understands that Game of Baseball.
Pete belongs in a cage for the risking the arms of his pitchers. Better yet, Pete does not belong in the Hall, he belongs in Hell.
So it's OK to give a CEO stock options and or executives/employees to buy stock in the company but not for a man to bet on his own team?
I haven't cared about baseball since I used to sit next to my dad and listen to Pee Wee Reese (and the other guy, whose name I forgot) announce the games on the B&W TV. However, I always knew that Pete Rose was a dirtbag. Aside from that, he let a lot of people down.
