President Bush Sends Immigration Message to Congress From Mexico

MERIDA, Mexico — President Bush, seeking to rebuild ties with Mexico, pledged Wednesday to intensify efforts to overhaul U.S. immigration laws and crack down on illegal drug trafficking.

Bush said that he senses there has been a change of attitudes in Congress about updating immigration laws, from skepticism last year to recognition now that changes are in U.S. interests.

"I will work with Congress, members of both political parties, to pass immigration law that will enable us to respect the rule of law -- and at the same time, respect humanity," Bush said in a news conference with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

Bush, facing a huge fight within his own party for his immigration plan, called it an important but sensitive issue. "I say important because a good migration law will help both economies and will help the security of both countries," Bush said. "If people can come into our country, for example, on a temporary basis to work, doing jobs Americans aren't doing, they won't have to sneak across the border."

OK, agreed. He never said he would protect the borders. He didn't betray us, we had no other choice.

Right now, we have a choice, we can send someone of substance and value. We must get behind Duncan Hunter. We must do what we can to put someone of value in the Presidency. The President of the US is not the President of the world, he only needs to be on our side.

I heard this report and in the audio, President Bush actually said - I am not making this up - "The border should be a uniter, not a divider". Good grief.

I guess that means no fence.

Hunter wants to build a fence, but he is still on the fence when it comes to reforming the current legal immigration laws.

I've seen your posts enough to know you're very knowledgeable in this area. I suspect your work is in this area (you have more knowledge than the layman) however, if not Duncan Hunter, then who?

It is NOT up to the U.S. to EMPLOY MEXICO!

I second that...this morning our local station KTLA Channel 5, had this reporterette following the President and reporting the dissatisfaction of Mexicans with our latest crackdown on illegals by the ICE.

They even had this old women, saying that she hates US because we do not take care of them!
The morning' coffee went thru my nostrils when I heard that!

So, we should baby sit the Mexicans, because they are to stupid to elect some sort of Government that is not bought and paid by the drug traffickers and the rampant corruption that is so common in that cess pool!

Thanks for the link. However, this is the only quotes that Bush made of 1999 immigration.

"More border guards to compassionately turn away Mexicans
We must do a better job of stopping those who seek to come into our country illegally. I support strict border enforcement programs such as Operation Hold the Line, which concentrate border patrol officers and resources at known border-crossing points. I believe it is far more compassionate to turn away people at the border than to attempt to find and arrest them once they are living in our country illegally.
Source: “A Charge to Keep”, p.237. Dec 9, 1999 "

"Guest workers, maybe; citizenship waiting period, yes
Bush pledged to revisit guest worker programs and other ways for immigrants to come into the country, but said he would insist on immigration controls and a waiting period before citizenship."

These quotes are quite a bit dcifferent from "comprehensive immigration" that he wants. You know the Kennedy style that he mentioned this morning while in Mexico.

Absolutely!

Good article - ahead of its time ... (2004)

"The persistent inflow of Hispanic immigrants threatens to divide the United States into two peoples, two cultures, and two languages. Unlike past immigrant groups, Mexicans and other Latinos have not assimilated into mainstream U.S. culture, forming instead their own political and linguistic enclaves—from Los Angeles to Miami—and rejecting the Anglo-Protestant values that built the American dream. The United States ignores this challenge at its peril. "

Bush said. "If people can come into our country, for example, on a temporary basis to work, doing jobs Americans aren't doing, they won't have to sneak across the border."

There is a pantload for you. They are coming here to live, not just work, because Mexico is such a dungheap. Does Bush seriously think these people are going to go home when their work permits expire? Really burns me when a politician insults my intelligence in this manner.

Another aspect of this that may have been addressed, but I haven't seen it:
When these people are here on their "work permits" and drop a baby at a hospital in Houston, at US taxpayer expense, does that baby become an anchor baby (US citizen) like it does now when dropped by an illegal?

Because A) if it does, then the permits don't mean anything. They have the baby and we can't/won't make them leave

or

B)If it doesn't become one, then they are better off sneaking in as illegals and having the baby so it can be a US citizen. Which means very few are going to even try to come legally.

I don't believe that Bush is so dumb he hasn't thought of this, which then leads me to conclude he is knowingly planning on screwing US citizens in order to benefit illegal Mexicans.

And none of the Republicans in DC seem to have figured out why they are in the minority. I see no hope for the 08 elections.

Yesterday while in Mexico, President Bush pledged to the Mexican
people that he will "work as hard as I possibly can" to pass an
amnesty bill. Here's what he said:

"My pledge to you and your government, but more
importantly to the people of Mexico, is I will work
as hard as I possibly can to pass comprehensive
immigration reform."

How dare the President make such a pledge to a foreign government!
But it gets worse. The President used the same speech to chide
you and me -- and rebuke us for not supporting his amnesty plan!

"In the debate on migration I remind my fellow citizens that
family values do not stop at the Rio Grande river."

(Full quote at the end of this message.)

+ + "Migration" debate?

That is not a misprint. The President has apparently so far
downgraded the current illegal alien invasion that he now calls
it a "debate on migration"! Migration? This was no slip of the
tongue. Both President Bush and Mexican President Calderon
used "migration" repeatedly and it certainly fits how the
President views the border crisis.

So our President goes to Mexico and pledges to do everything
he can to encourage the free "migration" of Mexicans to our
country! Even worse -- he wants to totally remove any stigma
of illegality and give tens of millions south of the border
free "migration" rights! And just for fun, he rebukes you
and me along the way!

+ + Can we stop the invasion?

Please go here for a full report and to see the new mobile
billboard as it circled the Capitol:

Everyone on Capitol Hill is bracing for the Kennedy amnesty bill
which we expect will be worse than last year's. The good news is,
we came away from our meetings with a two-pronged approach to
defeating this bill -- one on the House side and the other on
the Senate side. We will be sharing details with you in a few
days.

But one thing was clear -- grassroots pressure is OUR ONLY HOPE!
That was the message we heard again and again. Sen. Coburn of
Oklahoma told us directly that the grassroots made all the
difference last year. A key House staffer said that grassroots
citizens are our only line of defense.

I want to keep this mobile billboard circling the Capitol and
the White House until we defeat amnesty. Quite frankly, it
could take months and I need your help.

Please go here to help us Stop the Invasion:

http://www.grassfire.org/18042/offer.asp?rid=11184165

And please alert your friends to the President's latest outrageous
statements. President Bush is selling out our country's
sovereignty and he's rebuking us in the process!

"Who could know that Bush wanted to be First Lady of Mexico more than President of the United States?"

A man that I once respected immensely, and voted for twice, has, at long last, lost me.

I circled today on the calendar...not because this issue is any larger than the rest...frankly, I think his response to the federal-attorneys-firing "scandal" is what really, finally, tipped me over.

It's a cumulative effect; 7 yrs of disappointment and astonishment, and I've finally awakened from my denial.

If I had a tin foil hat, I'd swear the man (and his father, for that matter) are Democrat moles.

And please don't call me a troll.

Coming to this realization has been a long and arduous journey.

There really is no one out there now. Hunter and Tancredo are the best on the issue, but one issue candidates don't get the nomination of a major party.

Any politician even suggesting cutting back on legal immigration or changing the policies so that we bring in a more diverse, skilled immigrant that will help our economy will be crucified. 43% of all immigrants are from Mexico, mainly due to chain migration policies. This lack of diversity affects assimilation and could result in a balkanization of our population. Spanish has become a de facto second language in this country.

Immigration, legal and illegal, accounts for 3/4 of our population growth. When you consider that we have added 100 million people to our population since 1970 and 53 million since 1990, someone needs to ask as a matter of public policy whether we want to become a nation, based on current Bureau of the Census projections, of 364 million by 2030 and 400 million by 2050 with 1/4 of the population Hispanic. If the Senate bill of 2006 passes, we will add another 66 million legal immigrants in a 20 year period, which will have a major impact on the current projections without these addition people.

Since the 2000 census, we have added 20 million people, which is equivalent to the current total population of our six largest cities. These people require food, clothing, shelter, energy, schools, hosptials, social services, and yes, prisons. I am not against a certain amount of population increase. We don't want to be like Europe, but the numbers are staggering. Add to that the fact that Hispanics are having more children than blacks or white, they have a higher illegitimacy rate, and a higher dropout rate. Add in the language differences, and we are creating a separate underclass that is culturally and linguistically different than the rest of us. We can't assimilate such numbers.

I have so supported this president! I have prayed for him,, defended him,, I don't know what is in his mind! This is so insane! He cares more for the freakin Mexicans than he does Americans! How bout caring about the dreams of a few Americans families, Mr President of the United States, like say,, uh,, certain law enforcement officers that are out there on the front lines, doing their duties, paying their taxes and raising their families, then one day all their dreams come crashing down because some drug smuggler from Mexico gets shot in his good for nothin rear!!!!! How bout the dreams of other Americans, Mr President of the United States,, other Americans that have their dreams destroyed by,, say,, a crashing head on into a drunk illegal immigrant driver,, or raped by an illegal, or murdered, or assaulted,, or had their property destroyed, or are living daily being terrorized by gangs from Mexico!!! And of course,, I have not even mentioned those other people that have lost their dreams because they have lost their job to an illegal!! What insanity!! I am finished supporting or defending this man! What is the point!
