In our first poll of the 2008 political season, Rep. Duncan Hunter has moved in front of former Senator Fred Thompson, 46-33 percent. In third place is a tie between former Speaker Newt Gingrich and former NY Mayor Rudy Guiliani. Our poll is open through Sunday, March 18, with the top 3 vote getters headed towards to 'playoff' in April. Our goal of this poll is to gange conservative leanings for president. Regarding #13:

The national polls are at this point all a result of name recognition. This is why Hunter does poorly and McCain does well in them. In the end I'm sure we can both agree that the one person the GOP nominee is NOT going to be is McCain. He has simply sowed too many bad oats and nobody at the conservative base likes him.

I should state that I'm not a Hunter supporter simply because I think he has no chance to catch the pack. But I think he's a good guy and I hope he doesn't end up in too much campaign debt.
