In our first poll of the 2008 political season, Rep. Duncan Hunter has moved in front of former Senator Fred Thompson, 46-33 percent. In third place is a tie between former Speaker Newt Gingrich and former NY Mayor Rudy Guiliani. Our poll is open through Sunday, March 18, with the top 3 vote getters headed towards to 'playoff' in April. Our goal of this poll is to gange conservative leanings for president. If you haven't done so, kindly vote today!

The more conservatives learn about Duncan Hunter, the more they like him!

I just sent the link to Hunter's site to my sister. She's a McCain fan. Go figure.

Are you sure you hadn't voted? I get these from people in e-mails all the time and I tried and also got an "already voted". I was thinking I hadn't either but even though it looked different it actually was the same poll I had voted in at an earlier time. JAT

You evidently have been identified as not meeting the true conservative litmus test.
Better get in front of a mirror pretty quickly.

"The only image Duncan conjures up for me is a milk-soaked cookie."
That's pretty much my sentiments as well. When I see him interviewing on TV, or look at his pictures in magazines, he looks tired and haggard. I think that will work against him. If he gets the nomination he has my vote, but I think Thompson is the one we ought to give serious consideration to.
BTW, as of yesterday Thompson was on top of the list. I guess the Hunter fans here have been driving the polls up. Nothing wrong with that, but for those of you who support Thompson go to www.gopnation.com and vote for him.

I'm pretty sure I hadn't voted before. Maybe I was doing some "sleep surfing" of the net one night.

I am not convinced that Fred Thompson would be much of an improvement over the current field of contenders. He's a big improvement over Rudy McRomney. Fred's not perfect, but I'd be happy to have another decent option in the field.

"If conservatives were to write down everything they wanted on a sheet of paper...Duncan Hunter would be that man." - Michael Reagan on the Michael Reagan show 3/11/2007I saw someone on a Rudy thread the other day say that Michael Reagan was supporting Rudy. That quote sure doesn't sound like it. I don't have the stomach to search back through Rudy threads to find the post and correct them on it, though. :P

What is GOPnation.com?? Why, at a site I have never heard of until today, does it tell me I have already voted, when I try to cast a vote??

It's amazing that McCain gets zero in this poll, and no one on FR seems to want him, yet somehow he is one of the top 3 in those national polls. That tells you much more about the state of FR at the moment, than it does about McCain.

Something is goofy with this poll...
I know that McCain is not the GOP posterboy as the MSM would like. However, I don't see how he gets zero with guys like Tommy Thompson getting a handful of votes.
I also wonder about the big numbers for Fred Thompson so soon after the weekend frenzy of his candidacy. Either an unusual voter base or Republicans acting like 'sheeple'.

Reagan has made some comments that have...I'll call it "covered" for Rudy's candidacy. However he has also clearly stated this in favor of Hunter, and stated that "Rudy is not a conservative."
So I suppose you could spin that in any way that you wish.

This poll is very consistent when it is compared with the results of the Arizona and South Carolina straw polls, as well as FR's own poll.
The story goes something like this: most of the people who are going to vote in the Republican primary aren't going to be voting for one of the people the mainstream media wants them to vote for.

We are for Duncan Hunter. Fred Thompson would also be a good candidate I like thompson, but I think Hunter is better. I saw him this morning on Fox, and every time I hear his straight talk I think I could have a round at a bar with him and talk like friends. No filp-flopping for this guy, especially on immigration.

Just added mine to the DH column. He's trounced everyone else on the list and has almost a 2:1 lead on Thompson.
