To be intellectually honest, Giuliani also supports CFR, and was at least back in 2000, friends with McCain and wrestled with whom to support back in 2000 as well according to his book Leadership.

Now his voting no on impeaching a president who committed perjury, that I don't know and he needs to explain it. As far as him being the "second coming" of Reagan as some are trying to portray on here (I know not you :), though they both are conservative and actors that is about it. Reagan was not just an actor, he was a 2 term governor of our largest state. 8 years as governor of California is worth far far more then a life time as a senator let alone 8 years in the senate. I don't know much about Thompson, I am interested to what his ideas and platform is, If he brings to bear some great ideas on domestic and foreign policy then I would be have to consider supporting him seriously, however if he is just going to campaign on "Im a conservative and their not" then he is just going to be another niche candidate. We need leadership, if he can bring it coupled with strong conservatism then I could support him, if not then I will stick with my guy.

Fred Thompson fully explained both of his votes on Clinton's impeachment - both his vote not to impeach on the hard-to-prove perjury charge, and his vote to impeach on the more serious obstruction of justice charge here:
