Congress ought to examine and end existing abuses in U.S. guest worker programs before it starts a new one for illegal immigrants, a civil rights group said Monday.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, based in Montgomery, Ala., said foreigners hired through programs for farm and non-farm laborers work in conditions akin to indentured servitude.
Discrimination based on national origin, race, age, disability and gender is deeply entrenched in the H-2 guest-worker system, the report said.
Because they are bound to a single employer and don't have access to legal resources, guest workers are routinely cheated out of wages, forced to mortgage their futures to obtain low-wage and temporary jobs, held virtually captive by employers or labor brokers who seize their documents, forced to live in squalid conditions and denied medical benefits for on-the-job injuries, the report said.

What a pantload... There is a big difference. Slavery is defined as forced laborers, whereas the illegals (and "guest workers") come here VOLUNTARILY...
So shut up or go home. Better yet, just go home.

I've seen the Southern Poverty Law Center in a lot of articles over the years, and wondered what it was.
Wikipedia has this:
"In 1994 The Montgomery Advertiser published an 9-part investigative series alleging financial mismanagement, poor management practices, misleading fundraising, and institutionalized racism at the Center. The newspaper summarized its investigation as producing evidence of "a complex portrait of a wealthy civil rights organization essentially controlled by one man: Morris Dees"
Another example of the left exploiting the people they purport to help.
Conservatives have a belief in personal accountability, sir. I have nothing but contempt for those who exploit the labor of others to line their own pockets, and consider them to be akin to the slaveowners of old. That said, those who come here, illegally, *knowing* that they are exposed to this kind of exploitation also bears some responsibility for their plight. Yes, many people think that they should go home, and make their own nations better places to live, I am one of them.
We hear a lot about "These people have a right to make a living", and that is true, and undebateable, where the debate lies, and rightly so, is where they have that right...

I agree, Jorge. If the laws of this nation were being enforced this would not be going on. And this is the shame those who have refused to do so must bear.
These illegal aliens have the right to be humanely deported. They do not have the right to work here and the ones that employ them are criminals.
Then don't bring them here. Instead, maybe hire some poor Americans...
