[history]
I'm a reporter who covers Target for the Star Tribune and the other day, I got a call from someone who said that an employee at the Target store downtown refused to run his bacon through a scanning machine. He was mighty upset, arguing that the cashier had "no right to work as a cashier at Target" if she wasn't prepared to swipe his groceries.

Of course, they wouldn't actually be *touching* the pork at all. But as most of us know, it's not really about pork, now is it?

I don't want them touching food for humans anyway.

How odd. She can't touch the outside packaging, but she can get a paycheck drawn on funds from its sale.

I wonder if Target allows Christian cashiers to avoid scanning things like CDS with filthy lyrics or R rated movies that go against their beliefs?
Just wondering....

This is typical of the nonsense that Muslims in America want to perpetrate on us.
I say, get the hell back to where you came from if you don't want to deal with our way of life.
How long are we going to put with this crap?
What about separation of church and state? Scan the damn bacon, towel heads.

They would be touching the plastic not the pork. If they don't want to do their jobs, they should be fired period. If the employer gives in, the next 'demand' will no doubt emerge anyway with these muzzies.

I guess they would rather touch the stuff to make a bomb, then touching the bomb itself and then touching the tape that straps the bomb to their bodies.

I cannot scan towels or sheets because some dirty muzzie might wear it during a suicide bombing.

Are they allowed to live on the same planet with pigs?
Can they live in an area with pig farms?
Can they watch a Porky Pig cartoon or check out a DVD that has a picture of Porky Pig on the cover?
Brits have banned piggy banks to avoid offense. Piggy banks are a pretend representations of the animal, fgs!

"Are there some Muslim workers at Target who feel they have to suppress their beliefs to avoid conflicts?"
Gee, maybe its time to re-think the value of those beliefs in a modern world? If she can't do the work, her job should go to someone who can. When I was a kid, I once told a Muslim at our dinner table that the mystery meat he was eating was pork. It nearly flew out of his mouth across the room. My mom made me apologize. ;)

Can they watch a Porky Pig cartoon or check out a DVD that has a picture of Porky Pig on the cover? Not such a rhetorical question. Wasn't it last year that Muslims in Britain got all offended about an image of Piglet that was displayed somewhere?

I wonder if Target allows Christian cashiers to avoid scanning things like CDS with filthy lyrics or R rated movies that go against their beliefs? I was about to draw a parallel with a local checker who won't handle shellfish. I believe her reason is an allergy rather than religion.
Anyway, you observation make more sense and is certainly a better parallel.
Being non religious, I have to ask myself would either one (the Muslim or you theoretical Christian position,) bother me. Answer; nope, as long as there was backup close by to complete my transaction.
To: Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus
Too bad. If they can't live in this country where you may see pork anywhere, they should leave. Let them go to a country where there is no pork but there is a lot of stoning of women, rape, murder, head-chopping and neck slicing.
Hypocrites. Forbid pork but allow murder!
To: Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus
This is really odd. First the cabbies at the airport, now the cashiers at Target. If you aren't familiar with what's going on in this area, here's a quick synopsis: the Muslims cab drivers will not transport people with guide dogs, or people with alcohol from the airport. This is the same airport that where the six Imams got kicked off the plane for "praying," and it's the first area to elect a muslim to Congress. Something is going on. I have a feeling this is going to be ground zero for something, I don't know what, but just watch.

Ah geez, not this &^%# again. If you're not willing to do the job, don't apply or get fired when you don't do it. Doesn't matter what your reason is for not doing it - religious, ethical, whatever. Religion doesn't exempt you from job requirements.
To: Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus
Yes, it was, and it was by no means merely a rhetorical question.
They know that Americans are pretty sensitive about respect for other people's religiion and its practices and they will use this against us any way that they can.
Recall for example the refusal of taxi drivers in Minneapolis to transport customers carrying packaged alcohol or having dogs with them.
They will push this stuff further and further until we have bent over backwards so far that we will break.
Grrrr.
