Another U.S. star flips off America (James Cromwell)

Another U.S. star flips off America
James Cromwell, Jack Bauer's father in '24,' says he 'can't handle' living here any longer

You've seen him in some endearing roles – such as the paternal figure to the shepherding pig "Babe."

You've seen him in the role of the "heavy," like playing the criminal father of "24" hero Jack Bauer.

But you may not know the real James Cromwell – the 6-foot-7-inch, 67-year-old Oscar-nominated American actor who is also featured in the upcoming "Spider-Man 3."

Here he is speaking to the London Telegraph: "I can't handle living in the United States of America when I know the last two elections were rigged, and that we were denied our right to vote, where we live in a country where 32 percent of the people vote and even those people's votes don't count, and the people who should really have a stake, kids, don't have any say at all – people of color, very little to say, unions, practically nothing any more … we're losing our jobs. …"

No, that's no Alec Baldwin. It's James Cromwell, another U.S. star who chooses to flip off America on foreign soil.

"His diatribe is liberal boilerplate, but it's mesmerizing nonetheless, thanks to years of formal actor-training, his charisma and sincerity," explains reporter Susan Dominus.

So why would a man who views the world – and his country – this way agree to play in the hit series "24," which is the focus of much criticism from others who see evil when they look at America?

"I am on the horns of a dilemma – I can walk away if I think it's really bad," Cromwell explains. "It's hard to explain. It's a job."

It's funny how all these millionaires are moving out. I never hear a waitress or bartender say they're moving out of the country. None of my coworkers have left the country. Why is it always the rich people? Hmmm...

Have rich people other than those in the entertainment industry moved out?

I believe Cromwell is also a strict vegan.

Performers will keep saying stupid stuff like this as long as they believe they will have unaffected careers.

All is not lost. There was another actor who played Zefram Cochran in the original series called Glenn Corbett who according to the IMDB passed away in 1993. A lot of what came after the original series screwed up certain aspects of the Star Trek myth and continuity.

Exactly, I'd tell him "Don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out."

I also hope he saved some money from his work - 'cause I'll never watch another thing (movie/tv-show/play) he has anything to do with. (acting, directing, producing, writing...)

What is it with these so-called "stars"??? They make a little money, gain a little notoriety for entertainment (movies/music/sports etc.) and all of a sudden they are experts on national and international matters? Wake up people! A lot of these entertainers barely finished high school and have little or no formal training in anything other than acting.

Their "insights" into politics are no better than, and very probably worse than, the average person's. At least you and I, regular people, probably have a normal group of friends representing a decent cross-section of views. I know I do. I have friends that are unabashed liberals, and some that are so far out to the right they'd make Rush Limbaugh look like Lennon. So you and I, we're exposed to a broad range of views.

But these famous entertainers... Many (most?) of them are surrounded by "their people" - and their people want to stay their people. So they aren't going to contradict them, or provide any serious counter-point. These entertainers lead an unrealistic lifestyle surrounded by yes-men/women and end up with a very parochial and distorted view of the world. Yet they feel somehow qualified to and justified in using their fame as a platform for their own political views. Disgusting.

I didn't know who he was and I always thought he was miscast as Jack's father - not very believable. Evil yes. Type casting there.

Given that he's probably pro-abortion this is particularly funny.

Sorry to respectfully disagree "Another U.S. star..." Information I have on Cromwell (Oliver would be proud of this one, eh?) is a Canadian NOT American. He just accepts his $$$$$ from Americans, while trashing our way of life.

Look closely at all of the "stars" who HATE America, you will find that most are idiots, others are Canadian idiots!

So it's "hard to explain" why Cromwell stays with his "24" job. Let me explain: MONEY, FILTHY LUCRE, GREEN GOLD...how's that for an explanation. The horror of it all, this dolt being forced to work in that horrid America to make a living. Why doesn't he move to Cuba where actors are probably highly paid while living in a leftist, politically-correct country. Oh, the injustice of it all! (smirk)
